4/3/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 90 pointsEnjoyable, big, powerful WS Pinot. Paired well with both duck and steak. Typical VV character. Still youthful, but not clear it’s going to gain more heft or interest. Enjoy now and for perhaps another couple of years |

I lament that the case keeps ticking down….next bottle in 5 years, as this is still youthful, with great structure and evolving complexity. The last sip, 5 hours after decanting was a showstopper. |

4/3/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 94 pointsInfanticide, but a beautiful wine. It took a full hour decant and then kept improving for 3 more hours. a full range of blue and black fruits eventually gave way to a lovely and complex wine. Notes of lavender, mint, cinnamon, nutmeg, forest floor and a hint of rose petal made this a delight. There was a lifted element to the wine and a rich mouthfeel that coated the tongue. Next bottle in 3+ years. |

3/29/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 91 pointsPretty garnet. Decanted for 20 minutes. Moderate amount of sediment. Nose was surprisingly primary, fruity and sweet. A hint of lavender that ran through a red fruit core. Some complexity emerged with more time in the glass, but then after about 2 1/2 hours, the wine started to disappear. It was enjoyable and delicious while it was there. Surprisingly youthful. At retail, a nice value. |

3/3/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 93 pointsFrom magnum. Consistent with the last bottle, though more subtle and complex. The additional 10 years has helped. The raisin and fig notes remain, though the essence of candied ginger, orange zest, cinnamon and nutmeg began to emerge with more time in the glass. |

3/4/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 90 pointsFour bottles from the same case and 3 different experiences. All in great condition with high neck fills and not having moved for 18 years since purchase. Key "tell" seemed to be the cork: The bottle with the toughest, densest cork was by far the best, the softest, least dense the weakest version and the two in the middle were, well, in the middle. The best version showed a pretty bouquet that had those characteristic lead pencil and lavender notes. The floral bouquet was lighter than the fairly muscular wine, though not as brutal as some have suggested -- the alcohol was not hot or prominent for any of the bottles, and there were no chocolate notes or searing tannins. Rather this is a bigger wine than I typically would expect from Comtesse, but not out of character. The middle-bottles were nice, though less complex, while the lesser bottle was simple, and a touch tart at first, though it did improve with time in the glass.. |

2/14/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 94 pointsWell worth the wait — decanted for 30 minutes and then drunk over 3 hours. First bottle and it’s beautiful. Deep garnet. Roses and blackberries tumbled from the glass and sweet spices foreshadowed what the wine had to offer. First the blueberries, followed by blackberry crumble, cinnamon, nutmeg and cinnamon. This is lush and elegant with a beautiful texture, while maintaining a certain weightlessness. A long finish capped the experience. This was more St. Julien than Napa. |

1/23/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 94 pointsThis wine was the surprise of the evening. Ex-Chateau, this wine was great. It was fresh and bright, with a somewhat floral nose, that led to notes of plum, currant, blackberry, cedar, tobacco, forest floor. Lovely and long, though others at the dinner who had had this vintage before suggested that perhaps these ex-chateau bottles were in such good shape that they were literally the perfect expression of the wine & the vintage. |

1/23/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 94 pointsNot sure if this was simply a better bottle or the wine has come out of a dumb phase, but this was far better than the bottle a few years ago. This was beautiful. Ripe, sweet, with a mix of primary fruits and secondary notes. Some cedar and tobacco, cascaded with a counterpoint of currants and blackberries. The wine kept opening over several hours. Medium finish. |

2/7/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 93 pointsPretty and elegant, this is drinking well now. The softness suggests the high proportion of Merlot. The nose showed raspberries and plums, currants and leather. A touch of forest floor, and honey that echoed the nose. Beautiful and drinking well. |

1/23/2024 - PDavisMarble wrote: 95 pointsBeautiful and still so very youthful. The oak is not yet resolved, the acids suggest a nice scaffold on which the future of this wine will be built. Round, beautiful fruits, great depth, a lush nose and a long finish. I loved this wine, but I’d suggest not revisiting it for a few years. |
