9/21/2016 - Itriolo wrote: NRNot as fat as I expected given the vintage, but pleasant with good acidity, concentration, some spicy berry flavors, and a touch of fennel. I look forward to trying another bottle in a few years. |

2011 Lewelling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helenamore |
3/6/2016 - Itriolo wrote: NRGood mouthfeel, plenty of green notes, a little oak. It almost seems like a lower acid Loire Cab Franc. How did they end up with these flavors at 14.5% alcohol? |

2010 Folkway Black Ridge VineyardCentral Coast Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/28/2016 - Itriolo wrote: NRTasty wine, with the 25% Cab Franc contributing more than a hint of herbal/leafy character, though this is much more about California than Chinon. No need to age this one further - in fact I wonder if I might have enjoyed it better a yet ago, when there might have been a little more fruitiness and tannins (just my personal preference - your mileage may vary). |

2007 Château RougetPomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/16/2016 - Itriolo wrote: NREnjoyed in memory of Premier Cru in Berkeley - the last of several $17 bottles bought back in 2010. Just a nice, well-balanced, traditional claret. Ready now, but no particular need to hurry if you only have a bottle or two. Great tonight with lamb shanks over a rice pilaf cooked with spinach, fava beans, and garlic. |

2012 Domaine Rimbert Saint-Chinian Les Travers de MarceauRed Blend more |
3/1/2015 - Itriolo wrote: NRMuch funkier, simultaneously more interesting and more divisive, than the '08 vintage that I tasted some five years ago. Rimbert wines are harder to find in my market than they used to be - but I will be on the lookout for this one. |

2012 Under The Wire Sparkling Rosé Bedrock VineyardSonoma Coast Zinfandel more |
10/17/2014 - Itriolo Does not like this wine: NRMassively disappointing. Tannic, unbalanced. We quickly moved on to a better Cali sparkler that cost a quarter the price, and later in the evening used the leftovers of the Bedrock wine as a base for cocktails. Zin is Zin, sparkling wine is sparkling wine. |

2012 Sandler Wine Company Pinot Noir Keefer RanchRussian River Valley more |
9/24/2014 - Itriolo wrote: NRA bright, sweetish party-pinot. Good example for the style, certainly better made and a better value than most anything you would find at the supermarket, but not for me. I prefer earthier, more complex Pinot Noirs. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2007 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Falstaff Road VineyardSonoma Coast more |
9/8/2014 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRKevin calls this wine his greatest Alesia ever, and it shows just how well all of the Rhys wines can age. An amazing value. Great structure and balance, with cherry, floral, and baking spice notes. |

2006 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Petits Pieds d'ArmandRed Rhone Blend more |
8/1/2014 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRLiquorious, dark, tangy, lengthy. Jammy berry flavors. Better than I expected for an 8 year old CdP made in such a modern style. |

2004 Clos De La Tech Pinot Noir Domaine du Docteur RodgersSanta Cruz Mountains more |
7/23/2014 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRSanta Cruz Mountains does it again! Complex aroma of red cherry, forest floor, tea, and spices. Medium-bodied, good balance and acidity, and lengthy flavors similar to the aromas. Docteur Rodgers is our favorite vineyard selection from Clos de la Tech, and well worth the higher cost. |

2011 Hobo Wine Company Zinfandel Branham Vineyard Rockpilemore |
12/2/2013 - Itriolo wrote: NROverly sour and unripe on its own, but in two tasting line-ups I have confirmed that this Hobo makes an excellent "seasoning" that in small quantities greatly improves both over-ripe jammy Zinfandels and over-ripe jammy Chateauneufs. I'm considering putting the rest of this bottle into an ice cube tray to help fix future problem wines... |

2011 Domaine Arlaud Bourgogne RonceviePinot Noir more |
11/22/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRPretty good modern bourgogne rouge, especially for 2011. Dense, sappy, tangy red fruit flavors with more than a little oak. |

2007 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d'ArgileRed Rhone Blend more |
11/19/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRMore mature than the 2010 tasted alongside. Beefy, tomato leaf flavors along with a hint of menthol. Good structure, this punches well above its CdR-V designation. |
Red |
2010 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d'ArgileRed Rhone Blend more |
11/19/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRMuch more primary purple fruit and menthol heavy than the 2007 drunk with it. But it is so rich and pure and lengthy - I wish that we had more bottles to enjoy in future years... |

2006 Emblem Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherfordmore |
11/10/2013 - Itriolo wrote: NRThis was only OK. It is obviously oaky, with a slightly harsh finish. But I have certainly had worse. This had some attractive coffee and red fruit flavors. Worth the $25 cost, though I won't be seeking it out again. |

2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Dolinsek RanchRussian River Valley Red Blend more |
11/7/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRNow I understand, after tasting this wine against a 2011 Bedrock Old Vine Zin. That wine was good, but this was richer, tastier, more concentrated. Yum. |

2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine ZinfandelSonoma Valley more |
11/7/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRI made a big mistake tonight. I opened this bottle along side some Bedrock single vineyard Zinfandels. It was a very enjoyable wine, but not as rich, deep, or concentrated as the alternatives. I guess Morgan had good reason to declassify.... |

2010 Arabian Hilltop Vineyard SyrahTuolumne County more |
11/2/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRMy first Arabian Hilltop wine is a real winner. Bright fresh red fruit, good acidity, nice mouthfeel, and a lengthy finish. Well done Jack! |
Red |
2008 Beaulieu Vineyard Tapestry ReserveNapa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/17/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRI expected a lot worse. Gentle tannins, red fruits, vanilla, earth, and mint. This won't win any grand prizes and lacks the stuffing to age more than another 3-4 years but it suits my European palate better than most Napa Cabernets. A little overpriced at $40. |
White |
2010 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-VillagesChardonnay more |
10/12/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRA wonderful value in White Burgundy. No perceptible oak, nice acid, though certainly more rounded than a basic Chablis, with appealing flavors of lemon and wet slate (Or what wet slate should taste like if it were taste-able). |
Red |
2004 Clos De La Tech Pinot Noir Domaine Lois LouiseSanta Cruz Mountains more |
10/7/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRSurprisingly youthful and rich for a 9-year-old, with a lengthy finish. This has the bones to age further, but was widely enjoyed by the entire gang (which doesn't happen often). |
White |
2010 J.M. Boillot Bourgogne BlancChardonnay more |
10/3/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRA very tasty midweeker: flinty, smoky, good acid and concentration. Not much length, but what do you expect for a simple Bourgogne Blanc? |
Red |
2011 Ridge GeyservilleSonoma County Zinfandel Blend, Zinfandel more |
10/1/2013 - Itriolo Likes this wine: NRInfanticide due to concerns about heat damage - thankfully no signs of it. Spicy red fruit, bright acidity, and none of the unripe green notes that I've noticed with some of the other 2011 Ridge Zins. Intensely flavored but the body is surprisingly lightweight. As usual the folks at Ridge were a bit heavy-handed with the American oak, but despite that I greatly enjoyed the wine, and I strongly suspect that it would have only improved for the next 4-5 years (properly stored of course). |

2011 Belle Glos Pinot Noir Clark & Telephone VineyardSanta Maria Valley more |
9/29/2013 - Itriolo wrote: NRIt has nothing to do with "genome" as the previous poster claimed - the Wagners simply don't pick their Pinot until the grapes have ripened halfway to raisins. This is what Pinot tastes like when treated like Caymus Cabernet. Rich, jammy, and great for parties, but not to be aged, nor to be taken seriously. Low acid makes it better as a cocktail than as something to be paired with a meal. |
