6/18/2012 - Bardamu wrote: 94 pointsA beautiful wine from the master of Alsace. I can see this wine continuing to grow and evolve for an eternity though. Right now, it's starting to show some nice signs of development; but is still showing off a tonne of classic, intense, in-yer-face Riesling-y-ness. Huge acid balances out the sweetness. |

6/18/2012 - Bardamu wrote: 93 pointsA very interesting wine. I'd last had this wine in its youth, and it was full and rich and very Pinot like. With a tenner in the bottle, it had taken on a more creamy, savoury, tomato-leafy-ness (in a good way). For sure at its peak. |

11/29/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 97 pointsA truly spectacular wine, and just as good as I remember. This is one of the wines that was a real 'gotcha moments' early on in my wine career, and has always been a favourite. I hadn't had the wine in maybe 7 years now, and had one left in the collection and though at 10 years, time to say good bye. Huge, and funky, aromatics. Lots of jasmine, honeysuckle, earth, mineral, and fresh flower on the nose. The pallette was full bodied, unctuous and so complex. It's Roussanne and Chard, and their best. |

11/7/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 92 pointsDrank for my birthday! More important, it was tasting perfect. Classic old Champagne aromas, still nice and toasty but taking on lots of secondary aromas and hints of dark chocolate. Still with a very fine mousse and the acidity is perfectly in balance. About ten years old now, and for sure at it's best. |

9/23/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 91 pointsWhat a pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting much from this wine to start. A very cloudy wine, looking developed but nothing to unusual as it was pretty dark red and bright. Upon opening, it had some hints of VA, along with notes of sausage, clove and fresh picked blackberries; same on the palette. Soft acid and tasting developed, with a bit of heat on the finish. At first I thought it was slightly over the hill. After a couple of hours it really came along and fleshed out and added some obvious fresh ground coffee flavours and the acidity came out of hiding. Very smooth and silky. |

That's the wine I was expecting, but it's still a bit tight and shy right now; at least my bottle was. I have a few more bottles left, may give the next one a few years. |

7/29/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 98 pointsThis was a truly monumental wine that was showing perfectly last night. I hadn't had this wine for a few years, and I was remembering it as being more 'Aussie' in style, and by 'Aussie' I of course mean that it was going to be thick, jammy, low acid and so on and so forth. My friend, not even close. Massive aromatics, density without the fat, great acid and chew tannins. It was amazing watching (smelling, drinking) this wine open and evolve as the night went on. A remarkable and memorable wine, and most of all, and wine that does it's home country proud. Remember how much we used to love Aussie wines? If more were like this wine, we would again. |

7/20/2011 - Bardamu Likes this wine: 94 pointsWhat an epic and beautiful wine. Starting with gorgeous packaging, this wine is in a Champagne bottle and a crown camp to top it off. This was done to show that a wine that tastes this different should look different as well. Massive aromatics right out of the gate, giving off notes of papaya, grapefruit, flint and some mint. The palette is luscious, deep and complex with loads of fresh fruit flavours mixed in with chewy mineral notes and intense acidity. A very paradoxical wine; on one hand such powerful fruit tones, yet it does have more to it than that as it has the minerality and complexity that makes it obvious that is a terrific, unique and very well made wine. I like to think of this is a theoretical Alsatian Sauvignon Blanc, but really, it is exactly what is, the most unique white wine I've had in a long time and my favourite white wine of the year! |

6/29/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 93 pointsShowing a lot more development than the '05 right now and has more of a bright red tone to the colour. Excellent aromatics of bramble berry and pie spice. Rich but very elegant palette, nice and silky with bold flavour. If you're going to drink 'big' wines, than this is the perfect wine. |

6/20/2011 - Bardamu wrote: 93 pointsIn a great place right now. Mellowed out quite a bit, but still full of funky stuffing. The fruit tones are still quite bright, and that may be why I liked it as it hadn't been taken over by the saddle leather and earth that is starting to pop out, but isn't the current focus of the wine. Plenty of life left in this wine, it's up to you to decide how you want to enjoy it. |
