The gorgeous bottle alone is worth the inexpensive Aldi entry point. Sweet, as one would expect. Some honey, butter, apple, cream, goodness. Lacking in any depth, substance or sophistication, but easy drinking and friendly. An all around crowd pleaser indeed.

Very floral nose. Butter from the oak aging offers a smooth gift on the palate. Auburn California, who knew? Obviously this family does! And good thing. Kat at the vineyard poured for us, and we did a flight.

Tight, perhaps it could use some more time in the racks.?.

Rewarding in its richness and girth. Mouth coating.

The finish stays with you, no bad delta in the flavor at the end.

It offers the silky smoothness of a mid level Italian blend. Really yummy.

Glad we found this vineyard, glad we met Kat, glad we bought more than one bottle.

Into the family you go, Girl!!!

Enjoy!

Cramele Recaş makes terrific wines. This very lite pinot drinks well, offers fruit and a friendly, inviting palate. Its finish length is adequate and the bottle emptied quickly.

Not as bigly rewarding as Recas' Uberland red blend, but, YUM!

What an impressive showing!

Forty-five years since these were growing, probably forty-three since they were bottled...

It was so old, we thought to call the vineyard before we cracked it, to discuss its history. The gentleman on the other end said he believes this was the first vintage they ever did this Cab.

Well you could've fooled us.

Most people probably don't think Washington State wine could survive from the 70s. This one has crystals on the cork, the tip is midnight black, the entire ride up the cork is wine covered... Naughty talk...

Granted, we were very gentle in removing it, but it came out in one piece. Decanted slowly.

Pretty bricked edges? yes;
Aged funk? all day;
Earth, tobacco and green? it's in there;
Medium bodied but full flavored;
Complex and discussion worthy.

An hour open it became a more cohesive juice. The pours got bigger, no holding back, no concern for flavor, no apprehension wondering- will we empty the glass.?. Whether the winemakers knew it in 78/79, it was built to last.

The backbone has slathered away over time. No acid there to ride it more days in the racks. If you have one or a few, now's likely the time. If you racked it right, please call us when you decant. See ya soon!

You can't manufacture these flavors and scents... Just stunning. Beguiling in that it was so aged, but fresh enough for Steve Martin's Jerk.

This bottle won't make another hour.

We realize we may be missing the best of it by drinking it so quickly, but we've also had other decades-aged vin that collapsed soon after opening, or soon after a brief peak. So, we'll take what this half-centenarian is offering.

Health, wealth, love and peace to you all in '24.

Noroc!

Comes in like a PARTY! This party's been doing it since- and like it's- 1999! Pure, happy, vin excellence. Loud in the mouth, the event's ON!

Earthy, morning dew fields. Zero tannin bite. 100% smooth.

Wow! Is this the aging, or are all Col Solare's like this? This is our first experience w this vin. Wish we had a case of this joyous beauty.

So close to full body, opaque like a February night. Fall into this bricking black hole and take your time on the minutes-long finish, to snake your way out. Slither through the blackberries and dark cherries. Find your way to the taste buds of the Gods.

No wonder it's as smooth as a Brancaia Ilatraia Tuscan blend, it's born from Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle... We're in!!!

A steal for the $50 we spent 4+ years back at Nino Salvaggio's cellar for this friend.

Delish!!!

Give this beauty some time.

We cracked our 2015 and it had that very unpleasant bite at the front end. Combined w the cigar smoke it was, frankly, unpleasant.

Distraction melted away, however, after about 40 minutes of aeration and by the end of the bottle- 2 hours or so in- she was singing. The tertiary flavors coalesced with the fruit and the acid backbone held it all together beautifully.

The score is AFTER airtime.

Good find, PRP.

Open, decant, aerate for an hour, and ENJOY!

"I can smell the vineyard!" Wow this opened off the charts, a nose that said this was going to be a top shelf regular. Then, on the palate it underwhelmed just a touch, at first. An hour open it was nearly singing. Medium body- some below had said- not at all to us... Dark. Opaque. Heavy swirls said full body all day.

After our cheeses, sausages, peppers, and hummus on carrots, all adding up to over an hour in the green blown glass Italian decanter w ice pocket, this friendly giver was Goo-oood.

Not the flavor level of Penfolds Bin 389, but just as sophisticated and complex, offering layerd, nuanced enjoyment.

Yum.

Not worth the Vivino $95 sale price per we paid for two, in terms of getting 389 for $50, but, we drank what the Oscar stars drank, we were told. And, after all, it was yummy indeed.

Glad we got and tried it. In our cellar for over two years before tonight.

Have one more, but, scarily, the silver housing has loosened up, so someone pulling it from the cellar racks, could drop and break it. Have to store it next to the floor.

Opaque. Medium body with a nearly heavy roll on the swirl. The nose is off the charts welcoming. 2016- Perfect drinking today in '23.

Not hot, balance slits through the pour, with fruit and earth. Feels like it has the backbone to hold up many more years.

The scores, however, are less than ideal for such an offering.

There is no unpleasant bite, very smoothed out tannins.

We feel it should be a 90 pointer… but… Is it? So close… Really yummy juice. But its finish kind of collapses after a friendly black licorice hit, and aeration has, surprisingly, not helped this particular bottle… To hit 90 it really has to touch us. So close… We’ll Vacu-Vin it and see tomorrow. If day two inspires the big NINE ZERO, we’ll write again.

Noroc.

Six In the cellar since July '21. Brought a bottle to Olive Garden for its $7.50 corkage fee. Lasagna, bread, salad, soup, ravioli, the works.

Very inviting nose, but super light and not a very cohesive palate. Seemed a bit disjointed, leaving us wanting something more substantive.

Frankly, we expected more with these CT & Vivino scores. We'll hold the next one for 4 or 5 years and see what happens.

When we cracked this bottle for our Wedding Anniversary, we had such high hopes. In the cellar since June 2019, bought at Pure Vin Downtown for $55, it was a 6 review 92.3 pointer. We tried to Coravin but the first shoot of argon smooched the cork out a bit and vin came leaking from the sides of the stopper. So we went to our trusty ah-so forker. Nope. Pushed the now-wet cork right into the bottle, like a 70's vintage. Ugh.

Eventually we did get to drink it. Toasty on the nose. Earthy. Rich. Is it salty- cured meat spice set up? Smoke is in there. Perhaps we’re just not familiar with the cariñena grape…

A bit too much cigar and not enough balanced, welcoming fruit for us to get to the 90s.

Good for sure, and sediment was meager- nicely in check for an 18 year vin.

Vacuvin’d the remaining glasses. Next day, similar.

Good. Not 90+ for us.

The nose alone is an olfactory party. The flavors bounce from the black fruits to the leather and earthy goodness. The bottle is a haunting image and color, offering such a beautiful presentation. The finish holds and grips your mind into wondering why you're not putting the next sip down your pharynx already... In a word, fabulous.

Enjoyed with pomodoro sauce on fresh baked bread, burrata, spicy peppers, and strozzapeti with pancetta. Wow!

Even though this bottle didn't hit as high as our other two, it's still Top of Charts good.

I wanted to drink a benchmark-year in the family, wine. So I did. However, I wish I would have left it open for 2 hours before the 1st sip, because the last sip came at abut 2 and a 1/2 hours, and it was by far the best. Makes me wonder if the score would have been higher had I started it then... It opened old, dusty and not in a good way. I just needed to give it time. No bitey tannin, that was all smoothed out. Some fruit left, but mostly cool tertiary flavors.

I used a fork instead of a corkscrew, but the fork just pushed the cork right into the bottle anyway, as it was so deteriorated.

Anyway, it was a fun experience and the oldest beverage I've had, to date...

Certainly not getting any better at this point.

1983 baby! Return of the GrapeJedi here!!!

Yum!

But... Nearly 6 years since the last CT (allbeit 95 point) note.

This one was 88-89 at pop n pour... Full body. Lots of sediment. Interesting, not that beautiful bricked color imagery common in 30+ year old bottles.

Came together with each sip. We have one more in the racks. We'll let that aerate for 30-40 and it'll likely start out as a 91 pointer, and possibly seek up from there!

The last sips were the best. Alas, lots of late bottle sediment. Should have stood it up for a day, first.

Great w pasta and shrooms.

We like it!

Wow, that a vin so big & bold, with such a glass-fillling nose, unbreakable and full, is also so supple, refined, tangential- in that it seems to work as the focus or the background equally well. Hmmm.. Beguiling. We only coravin'd a (very full - oh why do we bother?) glass.

When we fork the cork to decant, it may open in a whole new way. If it does, we'll write then too...

Bought it 3/2018 from Wine Social, Oxford, for $49. Cellared since. Well worth that. And the five year wait in the racks...

Rare, only 325 cases in total!

Nearly up there w the best Penfolds Bin 389s...

Yum.

NOTE: Emptied the previous-day-coravin'd bottle, and it was more cohesive, more delicious, smoother, and we bumped it to a 92...

Enjoy!!!

Our last one. So SAD!

We cracked these every 2 years, nearly the same weekend, as it turned out... Weird. This one was our Valentine's night out, at the phenomenal MB Italian in Sterling Heights. They allow bottles for a very modent corkage fee. We dropped pics here w the Burrata & peppers and then the unbelieveable Carbonara pasta, straight from the torch-warmed parmesan bowl. Lord above, it's why we work so hard!!!

Holding up just fine. A solid, fruit forward blend with complexity, sophistication, nuance and layered offerings allowing us to talk about, share and enjoy this beauty, and the wonderful memories from Healdsburg buying them all, so many years ago.

Great job, Williamson!

Big, bold, fruit forward blend. Terrific loudmouth vin to tease with, while our 1985 Nalle Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel simmered in the decanter during the Superbowl.

The flavor's wonderful, what Caymus wishes it was, but, like that popular juice, this one didn't offer complexity, sophistication or much (if any) discussion-worthy nuance.

So, we top this yummy beverage out at 91, while flying above that for us, requires more layered breadth to get into, chew on, and be wowed by.

Enjoy!
