3/4/2023 - lowereastscott Likes this wine: 94 pointsDrinking well now, entering a likely long plateau of deliciousness. Nose of red berries and fresh herbs and a hint of sandalwood. Palate is pure cough drop: cherry, menthol and rocks. Refreshing acidity and very long finish. A really pretty wine that we don’t get to drink very often. |

12/13/2020 - lowereastscott Likes this wine: NRPurchased at a charity auction in 2016. Bottle came from Chambers St. Wines in NYC, who presumably bought an old Italian cellar, but I have no provenance information. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

7/21/2013 - lowereastscott Likes this wine: 93 pointsDark, brooding wine. Still very tannic. Very complex nose, spice and earth and black cherry on the palate. Extremely long. This has many years ahead of it. Won't touch another for at least 5+. |

1/15/2013 - lowereastscott Likes this wine: NRThis was a nice village wine showing appropriate developed aromas and flavors. Upon opening, it was not good at all - thin, off palate and not giving away much on the nose. I was worried that the ripeness of the vintage meant this wine did not age well, or wasn't very good in the first place. However, after about an hour, it really started to bloom. Tart cherry and earth on the palate, and a great nose of something warm and toasty, like a Belgian waffle or something. I continue to re-learn how much patience is needed with wine - both in the bottle and after popping the cork! |

11/10/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 90 pointsYou need to decant this if drinking now! When I opened it, it was totally awkward. No fruit, tinny and thin on the palate. My wife thought it was corked. I came THIS CLOSE to pouring it down the drain. Instead, I left it in a decanter and forgot about it for 3 hours. Upon returning, it had emerged and was actually quite beautiful. I didn't take notes because it was late, but I recall the silky texture, dark fruit on the palate, and subtle wood notes. Yay science! |

10/18/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 93 pointsThis wine was a revelation. Nose of petrol and lemon oil. Palate is creamy, with light sweet fruit in the pear/apricot spectrum - not quite tropical, but also with a crisp freshness and a touch of citrus, like the middle of a soft lemon cookie towards the end. The mouthfeel, though! Good lord, it is amazing. Weightless and creamy like meringue, it caresses your tongue like silk bedding and makes you want to just leave it in your mouth and never swallow (or just keep sipping more!). Just a ridiculously good aged Auslese and an example of everything that is brilliant about German Riesling. |

10/15/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 90 pointsIntense! Herbs and citrus nose, grapefruit and spice on the palate, then Boom! Like licking a chalkboard with the slate minerality on the finish. Not as oily in the mouth as the last time I had this - seems to have gotten more silky. Shows some alcohol as it warms up, so I recommend keeping a chill on it after decanting. |

6/24/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 92 pointsSimply delicious. Red fruit and coffee notes up front, and a fresh minty finish. Layers of complexity, very well balanced, delightful. A perfect pairing with Kona rubbed sirloin. This is the epitome of a wine that has gobs of fruit, but is not a fruit bomb. |

6/10/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 86 pointsLemon yellow. A unique nose of sweet orchard fruit mixed with an earthy component. This wine has decent acidity, but a touch out of balance with the fruit, which is somewhat syrupy, like the remnants of a can of peaches or pears. Good mouthfeel, but has an odd finish. I look forward to seeing where this project goes. |

6/10/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 84 pointsLight gold in color. Not very vigorous bubbles. The nose is all creamy, ripe fruit. This is a big, heavy, full-bodied wine. Tons of red fruit - raspberry, sour cherry candy. The finish is surprisingly short, with a metallic edge. There is some potential here, but as yet unrealized. |

4/21/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: NRLovely rosy gold in color, small bead. Classic nose of baked apples and yeast. Moderate acidity. More apple on the palate, which cuts off a bit earlier than one would like. Nice chalky minerality on the finish. A great food wine (picnic, anyone?), and a fine alternative to other California offerings as an everyday house sparkler. |

More salinity on the palate, and a slightly vegetal character, maybe rhubarb and strawberry pie. Long finish, with an odd metallic note at the end. Not particularly complex, but a pleasant sipper with subtle charm. |

4/9/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 91 pointsThis was a really, really nice surprise. A beautiful, classy Champagne from a new-to-me grower with a miniscule 3.5 hectares in the Valle de la Marne. Granny smith apple on the nose, along with something like pie crust or even waffles. A panoramic mid-palate that starts with more juicy, crisp apple, then the acid hits, followed by a buttered toast component before entering a lovely long, chalky finish. A gorgeous expression of the Marne terroir. Will seek out more. |

4/4/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 88 pointsThis is a fun wine. Classic Riesling nose, but with an odd note that came off almost like pencil shavings and dry breadsticks, so I agree with the people below who said "yeasty slate," as that gets pretty close. Vigorous bubbles. Sweet and tart, with high acid and nice minerality. Dry, with very subtle fruit, maybe Asian pear, but shy so it's hard to tell. Nice, clean, long finish. An excellent change of pace from Champagne, and a fantastic wine with all manner of cuisine. |

4/2/2012 - lowereastscott wrote: 93 pointsReally enjoyable. Decanted for about an hour, then followed for another hour or two. Cloudy gold in color. Enchanting nose of lemons, flowers and a hint of toasted nuts. On the palate, it features more citrus, with a nice creaminess supported by a zippy acidity. Oily smooth mouthfeel without being cloying. This wine was really hard to nail down, as it continued to change through dinner. Eventually a spiciness emerged, with zesty orange peel, rose water, marzipan/almond and honey notes. The finish didn't go on as long as I would expect, but still, this is delightful, with room for improvement. |
