Surprisingly good showing of a 2002. Very mature nose and palate with the classic notes. Easy drinking and enjoyable. Still, it does not have the structure or complexity of a chateauneuf. Should be drunk over the next year.

Very good, elegant and approachable Volnay with a lovely erect structure, pure fruit and good acidity. One of these wines, where you are eager to pour another glass as soon as you have emptied the first (or second) glass. Was decanted a couple of hours in advance.

What a wonderful wine. Extraordinary nose of black cherry, roasted garrigue and meet, pepper and licorice. Very mineral. Massive, but well balanced fruit concentration in the mouth. Very intense, but so pure with well integrated alcohol and tannins. Very long finish. Still very young, but really a pleasure to drink now. However, I think it will be much better in five years. What a treat!

Surprisingly mature, sweet nose of warm blackberry sauce. A warm and a bit flabby Amarone-like nose and palate (but made from Cannonau (Grenache)). I could not help wondering whether the sweetness on the palate has been purposely promoted to camouflage the 17% alcohol? In terms of future development tannins are there, they are just very silky, but I fear that there is not sufficient acidity for long term cellaring. Although still in balance (for this style of wine), I would consider to drink up, as I do not think it will improve.

Wow, this wine had no problems following the deus ex machina 2005 in terms of concentration and intense and mature fruit. Nose of very ripe sweet black fruit, new oak and hints of tea. I'm surprised that this is 100 pct. grenache. It is almost the anti thesis of Rayas. But under this massive fruit bomb lies a wine in balance with well integrated tannins, a good and refreshing acidity, that hints to a very long development potential. This being said I can't help thinking that this wine is a little bit too much. At least this evening where it was the fourth grenache based wine. Recommendable to people who love this type of concentration in their wine and have enough money to afford it. I would love to retaste it, but would make sure it was the first red.

What a lovely wine. Beautiful nose with alle the classic notes: Graphite, cassis, cedar, earth, minerals and hints of oak. Medium to full bodied and very elegant on the palate. Fine grained and well integrated tannins. Very good structure, elegant and fruity with a very long finish. Has the potential of another decade in the cellar, but it is drinking beautifully at the moment, showing some mature notes. It was double decanted 5 hours in advance, but smelled fantastic when opened. I wish I had more.

Surprisingly mature. Botrytis, peaches, orange, honey, spices. Rich and rather mature palate of yellow fruits, orange, honey and lime. A nice wine, but lacking a bit of complexity. I would have preferred a bit more minerality. Went very well with creme brulée.

This was nice and refreshing after a Pinot Gris SGN. Young and fresh with a good acidic structure, well balanced, green apples, pineapples and a touch of grape in the finish. Will cellar the last bottle for a couple of years.

From the 2004 disgorgement. Lovely and rich nose, creamy but in a tight sense with minerals and a chalky finish. Quite complex with some toastiness. Easy to drink and enjoy. A pleasure.
