3/16/2024 - slywka7 Likes this wine: 97 pointsDecanted for 2.5 hours. Aromas of dark chocolate, currant, blackberry, black cherry and lead pencil. Flavors of cherry, blackberry, currant, mocha and fruitcake. Has a good amount of tannin on it. Ends with a long finish of 40-45 seconds with blackberry and black cherry notes. Agree with the Schrader comments. Quite amazing as it is half the price. I need to seek out more of these and also try the Cab Franc. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

3/14/2024 - HowellMountainCru Likes this wine: 95 pointsPNP then drank over 2 hours. Fairly dense, well balanced, delicious modern styled Cab Franc. Opens with a nose of fresh cherries and florals. As it warmed and got air it settled into a beautiful black cherry flavored wine with great acidity and freshness with a slight spicey note. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Over 3 years it has developed into a wine with a sense of graphite to kalon fruit (that I often associate with MacDonald), energetic, crystalline black fruits, and a very pleasantly balanced toasted herb on the finish to give some savory appeal. Now this is a wine I’d buy again and again (if ever I could find any back stock left on shelves). A good value under $100 just so long as you’re not expecting Chinon. |

3/2/2024 - Lazlo Toth Likes this wine: 95 pointsCork is perfect and came out in great shape with a waiters corkscrew – very little cork intrusion. At 13 years, this wine is in great shape. No oxidation, no bricking, and in a beautiful spot with room to develop. Opaque ruby with a meniscus that looks like a 3-5 year old wine. Any thought that this had a drinking peak window ending in 2021 is wrong, IMO. Cassis, mint, flint, and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Cassis, blackberry, delicious mint, forest floor, baking spice, star anise, and vanilla cream on the palate. Finishes VERY long (a minute or more) with fine, fully integrated tannins. Full body, medium alcohol, medium acidity, and high, but tamed tannins. This is a wine of distinction and another great wine from the maligned/cool 2011 vintage. It will continue to get better and has a long life ahead. Exceptional. |

Beautifully balanced, smooth tannins, and excellent long finish. Great now and over the next several years. |

12/7/2023 - Philip67 Does not like this wine: 88 pointsQuite lean and austere, not a generous ripe style. Cearly very young. This will soften with age, right now it lacks charm. Medium weight, quite structured. Medium length and straightforward. Wait 5 years, has the structure to last many years. |

11/25/2023 - WineArchitect Likes this wine: 92 pointsPp’d and poured from the cellar. Picked these up from Tom Garrett himself when he was working at one of the wineries we visited back in 2008. Big nose of jammy fruit as I know these to be heavily extracted wines which were the style of the times back in 2005. I felt it has lost a bit of its’ primary fruit but there is still enough to taste the quality grapes they were made from. I was told it was a made from Mondavi Oakville property grapes. Everyone enjoyed the last bottles which was served with Chili night at the house! EG, WineArchitect, ArchitecturalArtistry, www.customwinecellars.com |

I can't imagine that this was a correct bottle, but it didn't match any of the common signatures of e.g. heat damage or maderisation. |

Palate-coating, with intense but very fine and nearly soft tannins that remind me a bit of a more polished, modern style of Barolo. To my surprise there's something of a weightless quality here; I typically find valley floor wines heavy. Sadly I didn't get the pyrazine notes mentioned by other tasters, and with air the structure came forward a bit. A curious wine that may challenge my sense of quality. |

9/13/2023 - jshufelt wrote: 93 pointsDecanted 45 minutes before service - between the spherical wax. In the glass, pink/magenta at the rim, shading quickly to deep, dark maroon at the core. On the nose, currants are primary, with faint hints of oak, potpourri, and vanilla. The expected cab franc herbal notes come to the fore on the palate, with a pleasing tension between dark fruit and peppery herbs that lasts through the midpalate into an enamel-staining finish. Very young, but approachable, and possibly worth opening one now for the fun of it if you have more for old bones. |
