Opened in the morning and recorked; poured ~10 hours later. This needed air. Dark fruited -- blue and black berries -- with leather and pencil shavings. A nicely made wine with good balance for a modern wine from Oakville.

Recent auction pickup.....pnp'd and great with an early charcuterie board dinner and finished over the ensuing 5 hours. Gathers weight and depth over time.

Dark, opaque garnet/purple in the glass. Nose of iodine, green herbs and dark berries.

Palate of brown spices, earthy leaves and blackberry fruit. Mouthwatering acidity shows up later on the evening and the barrel spice picks up as well. Long finish by the end of the bottle. The spice component seems to go on in the mouth for a good minute after swallowing.

Solid cab that is good early (92-93) and a tad better with 3-5 hours of air at 94-95. Mild grip to the drying tannins and a little tart element show up to the black fruit by the end at 5-6+ hours open to air.

Decanted for 2.5 hours. Aromas of dark chocolate, currant, blackberry, black cherry and lead pencil. Flavors of cherry, blackberry, currant, mocha and fruitcake. Has a good amount of tannin on it. Ends with a long finish of 40-45 seconds with blackberry and black cherry notes. Agree with the Schrader comments. Quite amazing as it is half the price. I need to seek out more of these and also try the Cab Franc.

PNP then drank over 2 hours. Fairly dense, well balanced, delicious modern styled Cab Franc. Opens with a nose of fresh cherries and florals. As it warmed and got air it settled into a beautiful black cherry flavored wine with great acidity and freshness with a slight spicey note.

94-95 now with maybe a point more to give. HMC

Time has been kind to this wine. Over 3 years it has developed into a wine with a sense of graphite to kalon fruit (that I often associate with MacDonald), energetic, crystalline black fruits, and a very pleasantly balanced toasted herb on the finish to give some savory appeal. Now this is a wine I’d buy again and again (if ever I could find any back stock left on shelves). A good value under $100 just so long as you’re not expecting Chinon.

Sadly, a rare off bottle. Smelled like turpentine, with a bitter finish and no fruit to be found anywhere.

2 hours slo-ox and drank over 2 nights with T bone steaks. Full bodied, plush texture on the first day, black cherry, plum, violets. Grippy tannins on day 2.

Cork is perfect and came out in great shape with a waiters corkscrew – very little cork intrusion. At 13 years, this wine is in great shape. No oxidation, no bricking, and in a beautiful spot with room to develop. Opaque ruby with a meniscus that looks like a 3-5 year old wine. Any thought that this had a drinking peak window ending in 2021 is wrong, IMO. Cassis, mint, flint, and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Cassis, blackberry, delicious mint, forest floor, baking spice, star anise, and vanilla cream on the palate. Finishes VERY long (a minute or more) with fine, fully integrated tannins. Full body, medium alcohol, medium acidity, and high, but tamed tannins. This is a wine of distinction and another great wine from the maligned/cool 2011 vintage. It will continue to get better and has a long life ahead. Exceptional.

HMCs bottle brought to the table after a 2 hour double decant then sitting in the open bottle for about an hour til we got to taste it.

Initial nose on opening for the decant was very Cab Franc-ish with green/herbal notes dominating. These faded over time, disappeared completely at about 4 hours of air then slightly re-emerged at the end of the evening, approaching 7-8 hours of total airtime.

The palate was red fruited with a hint of spice along with oak and still some tannins. This bottle not quite what the last few have been. We speculated it may be in an in-between phase right now. I'd hold bottles for a few more years if you have them as air did not seem to help as much right now. 92-93 for me.

Flat out delicious. More cab than cab franc, but in a way that took out all the rough edges. Last of this vintage, but wish I had a case.

Well...#iykyk. Wonderful silky wine here with black cherry and dark plum fruit. Notes of mocha, milk chocolate, licorice, and fresh herbs. Beautifully balanced, smooth tannins, and excellent long finish. Great now and over the next several years.

Quite lean and austere, not a generous ripe style. Cearly very young. This will soften with age, right now it lacks charm. Medium weight, quite structured. Medium length and straightforward. Wait 5 years, has the structure to last many years.

Pp’d and poured from the cellar. Picked these up from Tom Garrett himself when he was working at one of the wineries we visited back in 2008. Big nose of jammy fruit as I know these to be heavily extracted wines which were the style of the times back in 2005. I felt it has lost a bit of its’ primary fruit but there is still enough to taste the quality grapes they were made from. I was told it was a made from Mondavi Oakville property grapes. Everyone enjoyed the last bottles which was served with Chili night at the house! EG, WineArchitect, ArchitecturalArtistry, www.customwinecellars.com

Three hour slow ox. Very very deep intense ruby magenta color. Freeze dried raspberry, Italian parsley, and marzipan. Dry, slightly chalky palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the medium long finish.

The nose is a bit reserved. This really needs a two hour decant. It’s a touch earthy.

2.5 hour slow ox then enjoyed over 2-3 hours during/after dinner. Dark magenta in the glass. Nose of smoky barrel char/oak, brown herbs/Italian parsley, without much fruit upfront to start.

Palate of spices, red fruit and smooth, soft tannins. 94 early on in the night but it gets even smoother and more together and more fruity as the night goes on....95 at least by the end.

Decanted off sediment and back to bottle in refrigerator for 12h prior to serving. Just phenomenal with plenty of life ahead. Part of a wine dinner and was WOTN.

Dark and purple fruits that are just drying underpinned by dusty earth. Everything well integrated with plenty of complexity. Takes a bit of air for some density to shed and the beautiful elegant wine underneath to shine.

Ready for primetime. No hesitation but plenty of life ahead.

This was shockingly awful, like low acid black licorice juice. It got a bit better with air but never became anything remotely drinkable for my preferences. I can't imagine that this was a correct bottle, but it didn't match any of the common signatures of e.g. heat damage or maderisation.

A singleton opened for research purposes. Very simple but pure ripe purple-black fruit with a bit of earth and no obvious sweetness. Palate-coating, with intense but very fine and nearly soft tannins that remind me a bit of a more polished, modern style of Barolo. To my surprise there's something of a weightless quality here; I typically find valley floor wines heavy. Sadly I didn't get the pyrazine notes mentioned by other tasters, and with air the structure came forward a bit. A curious wine that may challenge my sense of quality.
Consistent when retasted from Boston round a few days later, but with the oak more upfront.

Excellent as ever, and as ever, needs 3 hours to show. Went beautifully with short ribs. I served this to a guy who hasn't had a sip of alcohol in 47 years (it's okay - he had a doctor's note) and he loved it.

(at Press - St Helena) Saturated ruby color. Underripe raspberries, roasted green pepper and dark chocolate. Medium bodied. This has cut. Very red fruit in style - would not peg it from Napa. Fresh. Missing a bit of fun. (89)

Decanted 45 minutes before service - between the spherical wax. In the glass, pink/magenta at the rim, shading quickly to deep, dark maroon at the core. On the nose, currants are primary, with faint hints of oak, potpourri, and vanilla. The expected cab franc herbal notes come to the fore on the palate, with a pleasing tension between dark fruit and peppery herbs that lasts through the midpalate into an enamel-staining finish. Very young, but approachable, and possibly worth opening one now for the fun of it if you have more for old bones.
