Still a terrific bottle. Great nose that belies its age. Would not wait too much longer to drink this vintage - window seems to be closing.

A light Burgundian looking Nebbiolo, which had a silky yet still tannic backbone with usual character of the grape.

Pale ruby
Rose Cherries Raspberries cranberry
Herbs
Body medium
Alcohol high
Acid high
Tannins high

A well made wine of which I need to taste more often. I have found Nebbiolo to be intermittent at best, though recently bought a few good options, though likely need a decade in the cellar!

Nebbiolo 100%
14% abv

(Interesting small plates to accompany this wine..a Somm choice. Well done!)

Calamari -lightly fried humboldt squid, chili gremolata, buttermilk aioli
Crudo- hamachi, hokkaido scallops, sicilian style
Carpaccio - Alberta tenderloin, tonnato, horseradish, gnocco fritti
Gnocchi -
seasonal mushrooms, pesto bianco, pecorino tartufo

PS Drink The Rainbow!!

What a ride. Opened up and it was a crouching caged tiger. Acidic, strong, heading towards kerosene (but not). Definitely not a stand alone. Had some stinky cheese and it complimented well.
3 hours later, this tiger became a calm yet powerful pet. Smooth, elegant strong balanced fruit. Able to sip alone but it pairs with food. We just happens to have tacos and it paired so successfully!! Truly any amazing ride. A Borolo will do this.

Perhaps vintage or the bottle - had elements of being much older, ultimately settling down a bit with food. Not as fresh as others I’ve had

Another outstanding Dolcetto. While I'm a Nebbiolo fan and fan of Northern Italian wines, I'm fairly new to Dolcetto. One thing i am finding is that (surprise, surprise) the best examples are worth it - and substantially better than more run-of the-mill varieties.

I have recently had tow 2021s - note -- a very good year, we cant expect this quality every vintage. I had this, and the Pecchenino. Both were in the same style with the same qualities. I would give the nod to the Pecchenino, but that is not to detract from the Borgogno.

Both had the same characteristics - a fresh juiciness, dark berries, muted by sophisticated nose, medium body but full flavors. Both were outstanding with food (IMO common for Italian wines in general and even more so for those from Piedmonte - whether Nebbiolo, Barberra, or Dolcetto.

I can now say with some confidence that i prefer Dolcetto's presentation to Barberra's. It is a little lighter but -- and this is me -- much purer and fresher (better acid balance?)

color was dark, but it was not a heavy bodied -- and therefore not deep or opaque wine.

Tannins were light and very mature/refined.
Combo of decent acid with some, but light tannin indicates medium age worthyness (and as delicious as it is, why wait expect to have some in stock). I'd say 3-5 years comfortably if well cellared.

From a perfect looking bottle, this wine had a deep red cemter and tan/yellow rims. After a few hours of air, this wine had a high intensity nose of roses, cherries, tobacco, plum, and some VA.

The mouth was rounded with very light tannin, firm acidity, and good length. It had significant fruit as well as flavor interest and complexity.

This was not a wine for those who like young wines. This was a touch past its peak. However, it was certainly fun to drink. I would be interested to learn more about the Canubbi reference on the label of this Barbaresco.

Wine is over the hill, what a pity. As soon as opened, a brief, very brief whiff of fruit with very pleasant acidity made it interesting. After an hour of air (not decanted) mushrooms and soy sauce. Sweetness in the nose almost of chincona, some caramel as in vermouth. Sweet completely resolved tannins. The wine still barely stands on one leg, thanks to the acidity. Aftertaste of chunky tannins but short. Difficult to drink in any amount. Avoid. Disappointing for a riserva, the bottle may have had a shock, the bottle appears to have been recorked. Jancis says of 1985 vintage: "A few remain impressive, but excessive yields caused some to fade early." This faded earlier than 2024. Other vintage charts show 1985 as a great vintage. I had this bottle in 2013 and it was in very good shape. I had written at the time "This was the freshest of all (borgogno vertical), very youthful, both in the color and on the palate. Very balanced, nice acidity awesome tannins. Drink now or keep longer. Interestingly, also the 1985 jaboulet hermitage was the best of the tasting with very similar characteristics." And again todayt, the Jaboulet hermitage was opened again side-by-side and it was just fantastic as opposed to this Barolo, which wilted in my cellar apparently.

The nose is fresh and forward with tones of sour red cherries, menthol notes, raspberries, licorice, tar, liqueur tones, roses, and roasted herbs. This is balanced and has good depth with an open-knit style. The Full bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with crisp, high acidity and silky, high tannins. This has a friendly take with some lovely, sour red fruits as the base. This could use a few years to fully come together, it doesn't feel like it will truly get all that much better.

Fresh cherries, orange peel, traces of Italian herbs and rose petal. After the bottle had been open for a while there was an unmistakable pink lemonade aroma that came and went. Medium bodied with medium+ acid and grippy but not ultra stiff Nebbiolo tannins. Maybe atypical? But quite enjoyable
