5/5/2024 - franm Likes this wine: 91 pointscheers - delicious, well balanced and aging beautifully, this is an excellent wine.....imo people are rating this low because of the low purchase price....for the similar reason that $300 yucky cabs are rated at 92+....Riojas are some of the best values you can buy, and this wine is a great example of that...a great vintage and a wine that will last for 20-30 years when it initially sold for under $15. That's crazy! |

Popped and poured? Well, cork splited in two pieces, last one totally pulverised so conveniently filtered and decanted. Beautiful, bright crimson colour with orange edges. What a nose. All what Rioja is about including flesh, iron ore, strawberries, leather, cinnamon, clove, biscuits or caramel even. Unbelievable complexity. Once again, coconut and dill missed in action. Similar echoes on the palate. Smooth texture, excellent acidity, very good length and a delicious aftertaste, very well defined. Supeb and full expressive for this particular vintage. Excellent. Deep. Recommended as postprandial wine even. According with this current score, may I insist that Rioja wine is not for everyone? I refer to the evidence ... Sorry. Reading latest news from Financial Times about the collapse of prices in Bordeaux I understand why. |

Plenty of fruit left. Rich tasting. Plenty of secondary notes, some chocolate creaminess, super fine tannins of medium length. Good acidity. Nothing tertiary and seeming to have loads left in the tank. I was foolish to think this wouldn’t make old bones. Good for 5-10 years if you like your GR rioja properly aged, as I do. |

The aromas are exemplary aged Rioja, a harmony of primary and tertiary, leather vanilla and dried raisins / prunes. Unfortunately the taste itself does not feel as complex as the aromas, and the finish is medium length. It was delicious with some side snacks and it could go well w any meats but given how the smell shines, I preferred it on its own to fully enjoy. Great qpr and simply delicious. The only problem is that it is a tad bit simple |
