With time in the glass the aromatics opened and the wine became silken. Purity freshness and intensity framed the palate. I liked it more and more as I spent time with it. A beautiful wine. |

While Solaia and Sassicaia can often seem more impressive, I find Ornellaia to be the most consistent and maybe the most delicious. The 06 is classic with it's flavors of plum, cherry, tar , and noble earthiness. The 06 is among my favorite vintages, including the 1998 and 1993. This was the first bottle opened at Easter dinner, and was the best bottle of the day. Also, sadly the last 06 of my collection. They all were equally impressive/enjoyable. |

This wine will drink for a long, long time. It is however very enjoyable now with a decant. I decanted for probably 45 minutes and it was roaring from the glass. Incredibly complex, thick, and chewy. The tannins are pure velvet. More sugary/ chocolaty fruit than earth or mineral. I can see why people who like this style of wine pay this price. For me though, I prefer the straight Ornellaia. FYI I didn't get the olive notes that many of the pro reviewers describe, nor did the people I drank it with. |

Other recent CT reviews pointed to it being accessible after a short decant, but to me, after three hours, it was still pretty tight. After five hours however it had softened to the point of being very enjoyable. The nose notably opened up a lot. Hard not to compare to Bordeaux, and I think I’ve had young Bordeaux that I’ve enjoyed more, but this is still a really great wine and you can tell it’s going to get much better with age. I got this as a single bottle for a decent price, and just wanted to try it to be honest, as I’ve got cases of 2009 and 2018. I won’t be touching those cases for a long time, even the 2009. |

The wine tonight has surprised me with so much elegance despite being a bit modern in style. It has lots of finesse alongside dark currant, cassis, and vanilla oak. Very enjoyable. 93-94 |

The nose is packed w exquisite ripe dark fruit - cherries, plums, blackberries, spice, a tad reductive f first pour, smoke, earth, licorice dried herb. I popped and I let it breathe for several hours before tasting. One day one the wine was closed up. One day two the fruit began to emerge. On day three the wine began to shine. There is a fine layer of tannin that needs some time to wear away. I would recommend holding for five years. Is it worth $69 a bottle? I'm not positive. |
