2021 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot NoirDundee Hills more |
12/8/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis bottling is labeled "Dundee Hills" which is the estate wine. Burgundian nose (like pornography, when I smell it, I know it), surprisingly soft. Flavorful classic pinot notes with richness and compexity. Darkish ruby, med-full body. Good finish. Wonderful wine in my view. It was $38 and change but I moved too slowly to try it, now $42 and change and out of stock. Failed. 93 but this should move higher over time in my view. |

12/6/2023 - Chris@77 wrote: 86 pointsNice toastiness in the nose, modest old stock evident. Good to high acid balance. Citrus (uninteresting) entry, lacking in mid palate richness or complexity. Relatively short and uninteresting finish (or lt least shorter than I wish). It's sorta OK at $36 but not in comparison with Roederer Estate Brut at $24 or even Costco Kirkland at $19 and change (Kirkland has its flaws but if desiring a cheap bubbly, very competitive). No plans to rebuy this label. 86-87 ... improved after being open for a time, comments still hold, less strongly |

10/31/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 88 pointsLooked for date disgorged, nada. For me this is less good than previous years. It lacks yeasty flavors and creaminess, richness, without interesting new ones ... citrus present. It also seemed a bit sweet with modestly almost short finish, PN %?. Maybe time will help but I only can store 100 bottles. Enjoyable on Halloween, just not what I expected from past. |

10/22/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 89 pointsI like Graves whites, have drunk few, perhaps with tastes tainted by quality or age. This is a serviceable wine, nice nose, 'creamy' in the mouth. However, to me it lacks clearly defined flavors in the middle and somewhat of a short finish with less taste than I expected. I'm not sorry I bought a few, don't plan to buy more. If there is a change with future bottles - will be next months, I'll revisit the note. |

10/11/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsBalance of grapes and flavors, good body and acid. Toasty yet some citrus. In my view this is a wine that will age well. This note is the first part of the bottle, probably won't add the 2d since I drank too much of the 1st so not indicative! I can't say I like it more than Heri Hodie, different, not unexpected given the cuvee mix. Both feature old wine, HH more. It's not up to the champagnes I love most but it is very good, 91-92. |

10/9/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 88 pointsLast bottle, this one much less good on the 2d day, somewhat less on the 1st. The nose and flavors are the same, harsher with tannin more evident, unbalanced against the fruit. I'm glad I drunk these up although I'm always curiosity of 'the end'. Can't wait, maybe you should. |

9/15/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 91 pointsBig Juicy Red captured it so no need to expand, only to confirm. Today is the 2d half after on Argon of the 11th bottle from a case kept at 56F. Agree with the notes, hard to rate 92, easy 91 (but I'm picky on points). One more to go, my view no reason to hold. |

7/13/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: NROffering this note for only those drinking now. This is the 2d bottle tried. Medium ruby, body, very well balanced. 1st bottle less friendly for 1st half and 2d, with 2d somewhat unpleasant. 1st half interesting but lacking in definitive flavor elements, vinous (not differentiated) flavors. Unlike 1st bottle that went to frig with Ar, added Ar and left the bottle out at our warm house temp. Today, the 2d half was very nice, open, fragrant nose, good finish. What I learned for this wine: 1) decant (1st bottle 90 min) or let the wine 'sit' in the glass before drinking, 2) don't refrig after a half (I am the sole drinker). For cellar-ers, this wine needs +2 years however, can be enjoyable now if decanted and patient. This is my last note on it. Other wines and age aren't helpful. 6 people found this helpful, do you? 6/12/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 91 pointsOver time I drank 8 bottles, this the 9th, 1st half of a bottle. Medium body, balanced (high acidity 'blows off'), medium ruby. Pleasant, persistent, cranberryish nose. Middle taste with pleasant mouth 'feel', sour cherryish flavors, above average finish ... nice, not memorable. Without looking at notes I may or may not have written (just checked, not written), this vintage isn't quite up to better years. What would boost it is more richness in the middle and a longer finish. It's unclear if age helps. You decide. I'm not in a hurry but doubt the remaining 3 stay. Please don't misinterpret this input; this is quite an enjoyable wine to drink! |

5/18/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: NRAdding to be of service. 3d bottle, can't tell if change because this bottle has started to throw a lot of sediment. Not expecting, I did not handle it well, now drinking wine and sediment. Can't fully tell but this was 1 of 2 add ons, may be some temp effect although not evident from fill or cork. Expect sediment. Will watch next ones. |

5/14/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: NR1st half of bottle, nice, more time good. Lacking complexity and finish I expected, amend tomorrow, wrote in 2 parts because overnight with improving or not is a message. Today 88-89ish |

4/5/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 90 points2d bottle, well preserved, fill almost to the long cork, medium body, ruby, no bricking (yet) for these bottles. Nice syrah nose evident at opening. Good acid balance, some tannin, red fruits. I bought these since I like mature wines, suggest they may benefit from more years. These 2 bottles not as mature as other tasters based on notes. Indeed, no sign of fading. With this, no idea if this wine will improve, suggest 2 years to apogee. To be clear it is quite pleasant now; I'm betting it will be more pleasant in time (but no reason not to drink, 4 bottles will follow this year). |

3/15/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 88 pointsI think Marc hit it. I wouldn't score it as high however. This is a high flavor wine, more full bodied than at first blush. What detracts from it "now" is missing complexity. It is a simple, enjoyable glasss. It's a fair buy from Costco, if a couple $ less a great buy, or with age if complexity. 88-89 |

2/10/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 94 pointsLast of 6 bottles, drunk over 3 nights. Per previous, not my style but raised score after more bottles. Highly complex and enjoyable wine I would rebuy. 2018's await ... maybe not for long. |

1/27/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is a medium plus body well balanced wine, will age well. The wine pundits appraise this above the Goldridge. I haven't experienced enough of a difference although the fruit is darker. I'm drinking the 2d half of a bottle on Argon overnight. It may be richer in the middle than Goldridge (?). I'll give it the benefit of a +. 92+ The 2019 vintage for both G and A - to me - are not as good as past vintages. Doesn't mean they aren't highly enjoyable or worth buying. They definitely are! |

1/17/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is my 3d bottle, has undergone some change since the 1st. Disclosure: this is not my preference style for chardonnay which leans to white burgundies. What's changed is the oak, once pronounced, more subdued, more in the complement. This is a full bodied chard, golden, extracted, complex. Without lapsing into poorly trying to describe flavors even after more than 4 decades, I like it. 3 more bottles to go plus 2018's. Ridge is one of my favorite wineries, never had a bottle I didn't like! |

1/9/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 90 pointsA big Octogon fan I've concluded 2020 is the lesser vintage (other wines), about = or < than 2017. In my view this bottling should have been added to the Goldridge. 1st night enjoyable, 2d night with Ar somewhat indistinct in flavors. I can't get much out of it, it's fine, just not very exciting. I've been kind. 89-90. |

1/2/2023 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 91 points1st half. Ruby, medium body, good balance, above average finish given flavors. Having written the 2015 was the best CA PN I've drunk, and looking forward to the 2018 in a mag (reported last on old vines), this bottling was measurably less rich in the middle. 2d half tomorrow. |

12/25/2022 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: NRNeeds more time, opened more 1st day, 3d day exciting after Ar and living in garage. Pinot nose is intoxicating. It's too soon to rate, tannin in the background, good acidity, minerality flavor in evidence. This is not a fruity wine. Medium body, deep color. I have great expectations, and 8 more bottles. |

12/24/2022 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsCork annotation "01 07 21". This is a young champagne, high acid, toast and yeast. I like it but believe it will be better in a couple years so haven't scored it. This bottle is not short finish, good finish. As has been noted - low dosage, shows in the mouthfeel and taste. It is different than champagnes I've drunk, perhaps the pinot meunier (not in my past). Will let my remaining 2 rest. |

12/14/2022 - Chris@77 wrote: NRVery young, not nearly as far along as d'Issan which is less mature than Malescot. Therefore, I can't score it, would have been able to do so years ago when I bought it. Will sip over hours, 2d half tomorrow. Wrote this to dissuade owners 'wasting' a bottle. 12/5/2022 - Chris@77 Likes this wine: NRThis is really quite pleasant after almost 2 hours in a decanter (OK, Erlenmeyer flask, great decanters of borosilicate glass). This is in no way to suggest that it is close to ready or should be drunk now, only to say if you have to drink it, you will enjoy it given decanter time. |

12/4/2022 - Chris@77 wrote: NRThis is a different than past AHF wines: Comptche Ridge, Demuth, Abbe Harris, Peters, different than PN’s from Cote d’Or and CA/OR, mostly RR. Color encouraging, nose pleasant if somewhat unripe. Drunk 2 nights over 3 days. Friday, pleasant, stylish, lacking mid palate for me. Largely unchanged Sunday, more open and drinkable. I suspect this will be interesting in 5 years, beyond my time horizon. Cellared highly regarded CA PN >10 years, kept well, no bottle developed flavors. If you have patience, may be worth buying. |
