8/19/2013 - jakearoe wrote: NROne of the better Cafaggio CCR's I have had, this bottle was singing last night. I've often found this bottling to be underwhelming, but this '06 was in a great drinking place, with plenty of dark fruits, moderate acidity, and long pleasing finish. Excellent, full mouthfeel. Had with R's poor-man's spaghetti. Well done. |

8/19/2013 - jakearoe Likes this wine: NRFrom magnum. Softened up quite a bit since last bottle, drink these up in the next few years. Still significant, though moderated, fruit to enjoy, along with some dark cedar, forest floor notes. Nice with t-bones for A's birthday bbq. |

5/27/2013 - jakearoe Likes this wine: NRSorbo sung last night. Not sure why I picked this bottle, as I was wanting more of a classic chianti profile than this wine offers, but glad I did as it still fit our cuisine well and was really drinking well after an hour in the decanter. While very full-bodied it was much more in a drinking window than the last bottle a couple of years ago, which surprised me. Really nice dark red fruit with tannins very much in check. Big mouthfeel. If memory serves, Manetti adds some cab to this CCR, and it really cuts the acidity edge, putting it a bit outside the norm for most CCR's we drink. Great bottle. |

2/27/2013 - jakearoe Likes this wine: NRMuch more tame with a few more years on it, while still being a solid, bold performer. Still has the stellar nose I remembered. Tannins have let up quite a bit, making it much more approachable. Over the hill? Whatever...not by a long shot. |

2/21/2013 - jakearoe Likes this wine: NRMy impressions are much different from many of the other reviews. I usually hold Geyservilles forever but found this young wine to be alive, fruity, and vibrant on the palate. A delicious sweetness of fruit so present made this, for me, one to drink early. Decanted one hour. |

1/28/2013 - jakearoe wrote: NRMuch more developed than the bottle we had at the beginning of 2012. Fruit is receding fast at this point, leaving a more monolithic zin that, while pleasing enough in some ways, is just not nearly what it was. Drink. |

12/24/2012 - jakearoe Likes this wine: NROh my, this is still such a wonderful wine. Beautiful nose of violets, fresh flowers and perfume that even broke thru my slightly-plugged nose. lovely palate with red berries and a little damp earth. lengthy, not over-bearing in the slightest, but stood up to a grilled ribeye, which had me worried. |

11/17/2012 - jakearoe wrote: NRFrom memory. Very pretty floral nose highlighting violets. Wonderful well-aged Brunello, and perfect to enjoy in the glass over several hours as it develops and opens. Actually quite an excellent value in the bottle for a Brunello imo, wish I had a few more. Exactly what I want when I pull a 10+ year, under $50 out of the cellar. Wish I had more to enjoy over the next five years or so. |

11/4/2012 - jakearoe wrote: NRVery pleasing as you would expect from DS in a vintage such as 08. Pretty well balanced, nice strawberry-based fruit with some nice depth...but that siad, the price point for this wine has risen quite a bit above the quality of the bottle. Found the finish to be a bit short as well. |

3/31/2012 - jakearoe wrote: NRLovely bottle. Licorice, cherry, black cherry and other dark fruits have integrated seemlessly into this smoky, not-very-acidic chianti. I found it a bit different than most of the chiantis we drink, and it is showing its 11 years since vintage date. I'll save may last bottle for a year or two. |
