2/17/2019 - handyjason Likes this wine: 91 pointsStill a bit young, as the tannins are overpowering the fruit. Has potential, and I expect it will be quite balanced on day two. |

4/8/2018 - handyjason Likes this wine: 92 pointsTasty - classic Cali Syrah. Very heavy overall; bold fruit on the front of the palate, mild tannins on the back. Paired it with sous-vide lamb chops and was outstanding. Can't wait to have some on day two. |

2014 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
4/6/2018 - handyjason Likes this wine: 96 pointsDeep, bold Napa cab. Surprisingly smooth given how young it is. The fruit wasn't too overpowering and the tannins are already coming forward on the palate. I'm sure it will only get better with age; I bought 3 more bottles so I can enjoy more of it over the years. |

3/7/2018 - handyjason Likes this wine: 89 pointsSimple, mid-week wine. Some pepper on the front of the palate, with plenty of tannins to provide balance. My gut tells me that it would do better with a couple more years in the bottle, but I had to make some room in the cellar. #firstworldproblems. |

2/25/2018 - handyjason Likes this wine: 90 pointsIt's as tight as I remember it. The tannins are still quite prominent, but the fruits are coming through as it warms up a bit. As usual, it will be better tomorrow. I tend to agree with Robert Parker that the 2009 vintage is excellent, but slow to mature. |

12/26/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 91 pointsCould have used a couple more years in the bottle. Tannins and fruit are still a bit too distinct. Opened up over the course of the afternoon and was quite nice. |

12/1/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 90 pointsReminds me of a classic Napa cab. Bold, fruity, with shoe leather and cassis on the tail end of the palate. Tannins are still a bit over-bearing so we'll see how it fares on day two. I feel like this would have benefited from a couple more years in the bottle. |

11/21/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 91 pointsBright nose, fruity palate with medium acidity. Am I getting hints of cherry on the tail end? I'm not as refined as some others on this site. Tasty, and I expect it to be better tomorrow once it opens up a bit. |

2014 Lemelson Vineyards Pinot Noir Thea's SelectionWillamette Valley more |
10/27/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 90 pointsStill a little young. Nice and fruity with enough structure on the back end of the palate to keep it from fading away too early. That being said, I think the tastes will integrate better over the next couple years. Thankfully I have a couple more bottles to figure out if I’m right. |

9/15/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is just an amazing wine. Strong yet balanced, and always better on the second day. Tobacco and leather on the nose, cassis and spice on the palate. I'm impressed with how well the tannins have mellowed since the last time we opened a bottle. |

2012 DuMOL Pinot Noir EoinSonoma Coast more |
7/29/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 92 pointsAs always, the DuMOL wines are a delight. The Eoin was a bit more jammy than I remember. Last time I drank a bottle I noted strong hints of terroir, but they were much more understated this time. I wonder if that is just the fact it has been cellared for another year, in which case I think I prefer these wines a bit younger so the fruit is. It so overpowering. That being said, it was a total winner for the night. |

6/2/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 92 pointsSoft and luscious. Drank this with friends on the back porch on a nice summer evening. The tannins were more present directly after opening the bottle, but melted away through the evening as the fruit started expressing itself. Like most Napa Syrah, this is a big wine but at the same time gentle enough on the palate that it can be enjoyed by itself. Not sure this needs much more time in the bottle - it's drinking well now. |

5/13/2017 - handyjason wrote: 88 pointsI don't think this one is past the drinking window but I also see no reason to continue holding. While I like the Solos in general, they always taste one dimensional to me with my primary complaint being that the tannins don't blend well with the fruit on the front of the palate. |

5/1/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 92 pointsUnmistakeable terrior on the nose and front of the palate, but well balanced with fruit. Bigger than your average pinot - really looking forward to pairing this with a hearty baked salmon. |

4/29/2017 - handyjason Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis is drinking fabulously right now. My biggest complaint with Solo is that the tannins tend to over-power the fruit. They are just too tight, needing a whole lot of time in the bottle before it balances out. The 2002 is like that. The 2009 is like that. The 2010, however, is ready to go. Who knows how time will treat this gem of a vintage, but I'm not sure I am going to have the patience to find out. I've got one more bottle of this and it's being saved for Christmas or some other really nice occasion. |
