4/17/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 85 pointsRuby Red; Soft cherry fruit; silky smooth and lingering finish. Worked well with a quorn, tuscan bean stew but needs food otherwise becomes too oppressive / cloying. |

3/27/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 84 pointsDark Ruby red; cherries and other summer-pudding fruit; juciy; supple, mellow and easy drinking, not too much tannin and no great development on the palate; this one slipped down well with the mid-week dinner and would be worth getting again. |

2008 Casablanca Chardonnay The Society'sCasablanca Valley more |
3/15/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 81 pointsClear with lemony tinge; citrus on nose, especially lime and fresh apples, pleasant but not overpowering oak; develops some honey in mouth and medium finish; appetizing but not particularly inspiring; a quaffer for a hot day. |

2007 Kuki Sauvignon BlancMarlborough more |
3/13/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 82 pointsAlmost clear but with straw tinge; ripe gooseberry and quite pungent ammonia; dry/flinty but not too acidic (no hint of any other passion fruit flavours etc); quite a short finish - ok Marlborough s-b but nothing to write home about. |

2008 The Ned Sauvignon BlancMarlborough more |
3/13/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 84 pointsVery pale, almost clear but slight straw-tinge; nose restrained compared to "Kuki" s-b from Malborough (2007) tasted at same time but still classic gooseberry & grass aromas; more gooseberries and nettles on palate but develops in mouth to reveal some passion fruit flavours; not as acidic or sharp as other Marlboroughs; thoroughly pleasant but should compare against Society's own label "Villa Maria" s-b or Wither Hills s-b both at same price) before further purchases. |

3/8/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 85 pointsCrimson Purple & lustrous; many legs (high alcohol); intense spice and dark fruits (damson , cherry?); more big flavour; velvety smooth, well-balanced, glugable, great for price and age, but 1-dimensional and needs food. |

2006 Gran Familia RiojaTempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more |
3/1/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 75 pointsMedium Red; Cherries and some mint on the nose (not much oak); more of this on tasting, also light and supple, suprisingly little tannin; smooth; not much length to the taste. Pleasant but unassuming; a laid back Rioja. (Prefer Wine Society own label equivalent). |

2005 Concha y Toro Merlot The Wine Society‘s Exhibition Chilean MerlotRapel Valley more |
2/7/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 85 pointsAs for Society Merlot (same wine maker, same process of oak-ageing). Presumably this wine was made with better grapes of a better pressing. It was certainly oaked for a few months more than the non-Exhibitin equivalent. Noticeable difference also on appearance in that this wine leaves a purple haze/tint clinging to the side of the glass on a swirl (higher alcohol at 14.5%). The Exhibition was also more powerful in its "punch" of fruit but I found this to not be a good thing. At almost half the price, I'd prefer to take 2 bottles of the Society (non Exhibition) wine and leave this bottle to others. |

2006 Concha y Toro Merlot The Wine Society's Chilean MerlotRapel Valley more |
2/7/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 85 pointsDark purple; black fruits on the nose but not necessarily plums, some spice and wood (oak-aged); bursting with fruit on the palate and would have been too full-on had it not been for roast chicken and roasted veg dinner, also some length and cedar wood notes. Worth taking again for winter suppers and just as good if not better (to my uneducated tastes) than the more expensive WS Exhibition equivalent. |

2/3/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 70 pointsVery pale/straw; Damp Hay and sweaty socks, some SO2, overall faint aroma but not very pleasant; dry (no oak) no great length and not even great with food (pork dish); for the price, avoid it |

2005 Emiliana Novas Syrah/MourvèdreColchagua Valley Red Rhone Blend more |
1/19/2009 - ICWHITE wrote: 76 pointsvery dark crimson; aggressive on the nose and to taste, viscous coating of glass due to high alcohol (15%). This masks any subtlety of nose and taste; just powerful spice. Definitely needs a hearty, flavoursome meal to enjoy? |
