One of the best aged wines I've ever tasted. It was still very fresh and lively with plenty of fruit. It's clearly not over its prime and has many years of life in it. What a pleasure to drink!

Our only btl proved itself to be a great one and was opened with the perfect timing, at its high. Decanted for sediment 4hrs before going to the restaurant. Shortly after the decant, wine was returned to its bottle and sealed.

Perfect harmony in an elegant and refined structure. All things in place: acids, tannin, fruit, maturity, integration, delineation, focus, alcohol, body, elegance, refinement, length, concentration, maturity of grapes, oak treatment etc. The nose, however, is peculiar enough, reminding us of childhood soap bubbles, "såpa" but also manages a weak whiff of a warm, round, perfectly integrated mature fruit-ball. Smoky notes and the smallest hint of Brett also.

Color is garnet red with small signs of bricking/browning. Strikinkly resembling a great, venerable Bordeaux at the final stretch of its final plateau. There's no uphill from here, but the better btls will remain for some time. I feel that to hope for 5 more great yrs is maybe a little too much.

For a perfect score, the palate needs to show a little more and there need be a much better nose.
At 1 star L'Effervescense, Aoyama. Namae-san adjsted some of his great plates so that they would better accompany the wine. He did amazingly well! Tonght's multi course menu sported distinction and subtle refinement with a warm personality (as usual) and had an amazing piece of perfectly made duck as main. That duck's marriage with the wine almost knocked me out. Fanfares! (My birthday dinner.)

Excellent bottle in perfect condition. Fill into base of neck. Deep garnet, with brick red at the rim. Nose initially hinted at bret, with red berries but after decanting and an hour and a half it opened out. Cedar wood, with a hint of tar. On the palate full and long, good acidity still even though over 30 years old. Long finish. A superb bottle with another few years of life left. Not as good as the '74 but better than the 87 which we had a few months ago.
