Langmeil Shiraz The Freedom 1843

Langmeil Winery is home to The Freedom 1843 Shiraz, believed to be planted in 1843 by vigneron Christian Auricht. Escaping war and persecution in Prussia, Auricht travelled to his new homeland, finding freedom in the Barossa Valley. The original plantings still survive and are some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world.

The 1843 Freedom Shiraz encapsulates contemporary Barossa style. Based on low-yielding ancestor vines planted by Christian Auricht in 1843, the wine references the past by harnessing heritage with traditional winemaking practices. Aged in new (60 to 80%) and seasoned French oak hogsheads, this expressive Barossa wine is typified by blackberry and mocha aromas, a lovely core of pure fruit and chocolatey tannins.
