Wild Rock Wine

The Wild Rock Wine Company is a producer of regionally diverse wines from a combination of owned, leased and contracted vineyards in Hawke's Bay, Martinborough, Marlborough and Central Otago.

From our 'Wild Whites' (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rose) to the 'Rich Reds' (Syrah, Merlot/Malbec) and 'Just Pinot', Wild Rock's modern, unconstrained and memorable collection of wines speak uniquely of New Zealand and showcase some of the county's best known varietals.

Proudly New Zealand. Unforgettable Wines.

Our Vineyards

Hawkes Bay is blessed with a diverse range of soils and microclimates that create endless possibilities for winegrowing. In the cooler coastal and river terraces we grow finely flavoured and aromatic Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District is also located here. It's the countries warmest place to grow wine and home to our Syrah, Merlot and Malbec vineyards.

We found some of the rockiest, driest ground in Martinborough, a handkerchief sized pocket of New Zealand's North Island, where it seldom rains. Then we planted the old river terraces with the newest available Pinot Noir clones from France and left them to it.The result is our Strugglers Flat Pinot Noir, and modesty aside we have to say we're pretty pleased.

Just south of Martinborough, at the tip of the South Island is the world renowned Marlborough region, the New World's home of Sauvignon Blanc. We've chosen to plant our vineyards in the young, stony soils of the Wairau Valley, an area that produces pure, intensely flavoured grapes of exceptional quality. Our growers here tend these vines meticulously and passionately - they are true winegrowers.

The ruggedly beautiful Otago region is the world's most southern winegrowing district and the birthplace of our Cupids Arrow Pinot Noir. This dry, sunny and almost continental climate produces highly aromatic, wildly flavoured, softly textured wines that are without a doubt, unique and special. We often say that the vineyards here produce wine as dramatic and vivid as the environment.

Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

Wild Rock's Rollicking Reds
16 April,2011

Although marketed as a distinctly separate brand, Wild Rock is connected to Craggy Range as the ‘second tier' label by wine consumers, knowing that the wines share the same vineyard source. Of course the vinification is handled differently to make more fruit-forward, easily accessible wines of good value. Interestingly, the Wild Rock wines have garnered more than their fair share of wine show gold medals, indicating their quality and indeed their balance, making them exceptionally consumer friendly. Two 2009 reds, well-loved labels in previous vintages, are reviewed here. www.wildrockwine.co.nz
