August 28, 2022 - This borders on the "as good as it gets" for chardonnay. A stunning wine that consumed perhaps 3 years too early. But as I only had one bottle, it was good to try it young. Only 639 bottles were made.
Voluptuous, elegance, balanced and tension - these are some of the descriptors that I would use to describe this wine. How a chardonnay can achieve this level of sophistication is beyond me. It makes Leflaive looks very pedestrian - decidedly.
A flinty, mineral nose with layers of fruits - citrus, peach and nectarine. The body was tactile, racy and grippy at the same time. Notes of citrus fruits, green apple and wet slates were very evident. Finish was just wonderful - it had drive with subtleness at the same time - white flowers and racy freshness.
This is the highest score I have ever given to a chardonnay and I have been lucky enough to try some of the best. Can't wait for the next release.
Drink in 3+ years but if open now, decant it for an hour and drink at almost room temparature.364 views
