October 24, 2022 - The '17 Barolo from Alessandria is a beautiful young wine that is drinking well now and should improve through the medium term. The nose is beautifully perfumed with dark red cherry and plum fruit, orange peel, licorice, sweet spices, and menthol. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, and more closed off than the nose, with dark red fruit alongside spice and herbal tones. There's good length for a base wine especially in this vintage, the acidity is high and the wine shows good freshness, and while there's quite a bit of slightly grainy tannin, the texture is quite approachable and it seems like there's enough fruit/depth here for the tannins to integrate at the same pace as the flavor profile of the wine.
