October 6, 2022 - 75 % Merlot, 25 % Cabernet Franc
from 34 ha estate on south/southwest exposed clay-limestone plateau
with vines of average age 30 yrs planted 6,500-7,200/ha
yielding 35 hl/ha.
Manual harvest in small crates. Manual sorting.
Separate vinification in conical shaped, double walled, temperature-
controlled stainless steel vats.
Malolactic: 1/3 in new barrels and 2/3 in stainless steel vats.
Aged 18-20 months in French oak barrel (60% new, med to med-long
toasting).
15% Abv.
Proprietors: (Since 1996) Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer,
the owners of Maison Chanel.
General Manager: John Kolasa (through 2015, Nicolas Audebert thereafter)
A(ccuray)=2: Deep ruby/red. Ripe tannic Merlot blend.
B(alance)=3: Mature fruit with textured structure.
C(omplexity)=2: Dark berries, plum, spices, tobacco.
D(epth)=1: Plush mouthfeel. Even med weight palate and finish.
Wine Tally Score [2,3,2,1]= 8/10.
Very good but perhaps not the block-buster anticipated.
