January 18, 2023 - Double decanted and recorked. Drunk the next day. Bottle 02201. Surprisingly approachable for so young a Barolo from Castiglione. Floral notes of violet and roses. Gently Balsamic. As yet without the herbal notes I associate with wines from this vineyard. Mid weight. Ripe - and in no sense overripe - but without the greatest depth or intensity of fruit in the mid palate. Sufficient but not exceptional length. Carries its alcohol well. Grippy tannin that seem ripe, fine grained and broadly in proportion to the modest scale of the rest of the wine. Lacks the power and thrust of a more heralded vintage. But there is balance overall between its elements. A fine Barolo in a minor key and ready relatively soon. Bravo Alfio !
Next day - the herbal notes make an appearance. The tannins dry on one sip but not so much the next. Young Barolo changes so much...
