January 19, 2015 - Terroir-istes International - France, Bordeaux, St. Emilion (Groot Constantia): Mid crimson, the bouquet is quite wood orientated but interspersed with freshly picked red cherry, red plum, raspberry and a twist of liquorice.
Sweet ripe, stewed fruit, this is a powerful wine with plenty of flesh and concentration. No real finesse, the alcohol is nicely integrated along with the lively acidity. A long and luxuriant finish. Filled with 70% chocolate, raspberry, oak spices and more liquorice. Some felt manipulated in its desire for super-ripeness and I would argue the wood does stand a little apart. It is a voluminous, broad mid-palate and the well-managed tannins have density. For me a St. Emilion that has a modern twist but still retains its sense of place.508 views
