March 22, 2010 - Wow, is this wine something special. Drank for a special occasion, this wine didn't disappoint. Utterly harmonious, elegant and noble, the aromas were not as powerful as I had expected, event after 7 hours in the decanter and the glass, yet present were scents of cassis, tobacco and cedar. On the palate however, were lush, concentrated flavors of lead pencil, tobacco, cedar and dirt underpinned by pretty, fresh cassis fruit. The mid palate flavors gave way to intense flavors of cedar, bacon fat, jasmine, and most notably leather. Everything in this wine is in the right place: the wine is structured, fresh and flavorsome, and because of this balance of fruit, tannin and acidity it has the things it needs to mature, if not at least keep, for the next 15 years or more. Moreover, this wine is so expressive of its Pauillac roots, and seems to embody all that which claret lovers crave. Astounding!
