March 21, 2010 - Very enjoyable. Nose of oak and earth reminiscent of a wine cellar. Big time blueberry taste that mellowed to smoky black cherry.

3/26/10, 8:31 PM - I have been waiting for someone to post notes on this! I am completely unfamiliar with this varietal. Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a bit... did you decant? Any food pairing recommendations? What other varietal does this compare with?

    Thanks!

5/17/10, 1:17 AM - Sakas: The wine was purchased at the Robert Renzoni winery in Temucula in late February 2010. It was our favorite of the tastings there. I also was unfamiliar with the Lagrein grape but found it reminiscent of the reds I've had from Austria and Slovenia -- a bit rough but quite tasty. I see that the grape is from Northern Italy and I suspect that is where I'm getting the Austria/Slovenia "flashback." We did not decant, but probably would for 30-60 minutes the next time. Sorry that I don't remember the food pairing that evening, but I'd think something that you enjoy having with a wine showing an earthy aroma and taste.
