April 9, 2010 - My 100th note! So, I found myself with a glass of this in my hands and boy I was very excited to try this very controversial wine. I saw this as another chance to settle some thoughts on international-style wine, and this to me seems a watershed moment in that I now must indeed be a confirmed traditionalist. But anyway, I brought my nose to the wine where there were strong aromas of new oak, both in the form of toast and vanilla, along with sur-mature blueberry fruit, and perhaps wood smoke. On the palate are waves of massive and layered oak-slathered, superripe blueberry fruit, and really not much else. Certainly well-made, with good, sweet tannins, I took this wine to be unbalanced: the wine's lack of freshnening acidity and alcoholic finish hardly betray harmony --and I mean for a modern-styled wine. I've read the reviews of these wines, and the nuances described were just not present; I must admit that I think that I haven't seen the best this, and really other wines of this style have to offer. 90?
