7/30/10, 3:39 PM - Excerpted from the K&L Wines website:
The Basile winery was founded by two brothers, Giovan Battista and Domenico Basile. The family had always intended to run a small farm where they could produce wines in a sustainable, organic manner while still preserving the local terroir and traditional winemaking practices. The only wine they are currently releasing is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Merlot. These organic vineyards are planted in traditional southwest positions. The soil is highly mineral and contains large amounts of slate. The wine was fermented in large stainless steel tanks, followed by 10 months in French oak tonneaux. After aging, the wine is left to rest in the bottle for several months until it is deemed ready for release.
