December 11, 2010 - Early in my wine drinking life I bought a few vintages of Freestone Cab mainly because I'm a fly fisherman and the labels included paintings of flies. I'd held onto this bottle for WAY too long for sentimental reasons. Last night, I pulled the cork. I was expecting to be very disappointed by a wine well past its peak. Initially, my expectations were well-founded as I was met with a very flat, fruitless wine - despite a gorgeous garnet color. I was only expecting it to get worse as oxygen did its damage. However, I was surprised how much the wine improved over the 90 minutes I drank it. Surprising amounts of fruit tucked in there? Kudos to a wine that survived its owner's sentimental imprisonment!
