January 11, 2011 - Glorious Rhône lunch at 28-50 (London): From magnum. Wow, black, stern, lots of iron, yet richly fruited on an amazingly silky and approachable palate. Killer wine delivering so much pleasure. It is hard for me to imagine Hermitage much more satisfying than this. Of all the wines at the tasting, I thought this was at the best spot to drink.

1/26/11, 9:45 AM - We had a discussion at lunch about the success of 1982 in Hermitage, because a good bottle of 1982 La Chapelle can be stunning as well (albeit not at the level of that remarkable Chave Magnum). Obviously there are more producers than just those two, but when the two flagship wines are aging so well it makes you think.
