January 26, 2011 - Chateau Batailley Tasting (The Sampler): The look of this wine is quite amazing as it only shows hints of bricking. Although it does throw quite a bit of sediment.
Heavy iodine/saltiness on the nose. Lifted cedar notes and lots of red liquorish.
The palate is dry but with a real sweet fruit intensity of currents, black cherry and dried cranberry. Tobacco, sweat and Spanish cedar notes are lovely and add wonderful complexity to this. Well integrated tannins and a long long finish of pencil lead and iodine. Quite the show horse.

    Outstanding Quality. 92+ pts.

3/9/11, 6:56 PM - Might you consider drinking this elegant but aged wine with something softer, like game, or other fowl? I'm wondering if the American palate just expects tannins in wines, and tha cabs Have to go with steak because the young ones need something strong to counteract their brashness!
