December 20, 2010 - Very complex and WOTN of black cherries, plum, espresso, pie crust and black tea, opening up more and more over the next couple of hours with compelling notes of tangerine peal, chocolate, mint, pine, white roses, marzipan and liquorice root. The wine is fat and dense, with this extra dimension of something enigmatic and undefinable that you only find in really great wines, a bottomless well of complexity that leaves you stunned and speechless, but with the exhilarating feeling of having met something larger than life. After two hours more secondary notes of bacon fat, sweet green tobacco, leather, musk oil and a hint of oriental spices (almost with a touch of Vosne) and the wine just kept on developing during the evening, without loosing it’s vibrancy. Good length and good grip on the palate too, and the tannins are superbly integrated at this stage This is an extremely elegant and refined Barolo, caught at a perfect time. It is mature, complex, elegant, dense and still with all the fruit one could wish for. Not to mention the instant mental effect as a mixture of exaltation and meditation topped off with a coating layer of pure happiness. Loud “Bravo’s” all around the table to this true Diva of a wine.
