July 7, 2011 - This wine has a medium purple color to it with a ruby red rim. It is a heavy bodied wine with 14.7% alcohol. It is very aromatic wine, giving off aromas of blackberries, plums, cherry cola, chocolate and a very noticeable aroma of cardamom. It tastes of blackberries, cardamom, unsweetened baking chocolate, slight black cherry and some espresso. This wine is good, and I think it is near its peak now. For its price, I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt of seeing 20 years old, but I just can not see that in this wine. The structure seems good, but the tannins have mellowed it was drinking fairly smooth after 3 hours of decanting. To be on the safe side, drink this wine within the next 3 years, anything beyond 12 years from vintage date is a risk. I could be wrong about this, but my instinct tells me that this is a 12 to maybe 15 year wine from vintage date at best. Open and enjoy.
