August 27, 2011 - This 2003 came out of the gate firing. Very aromatic bouquet on the first pop and pour. The fruit remains quite ripe on the first taste but is settling in with an earthy finish. This could be an interesting wine if it holds together. The tartness of the first pour has softened and has been replaced by a nice jammy flavor. The finish continues to settle into a nice balanced wine. As a cabernet lover the taste buds keep waiting for the tannins to kick in, but no dice. I am a bit surprised at how smooth it is with a soft blackberry taste. This wine is settling into an excellently balanced Pinot with a great fruit feel and excellent balance. The pop and pour set the wrong tone for the wine because with a little bit of time this wine has matured into another quality offering from a well-aged Pinot. Happy to have at least another glass-and-a-half left in this bottle to enjoy this elegant Pinot. I’ve had great success with 8-10 year old Pinots lately and this one is no different.
