  October 30, 2006 - On opening this wine had an earthy taste, unpleasant nose, and was all but unpalatable. I didn't think the bottle was flawed because it had characteristics I've tasted and smelled before in Rhone wines. So I put it aside for an hour or two and some of the funkiness was gone but it still wasn't quite right. So corked it and called it a night, so to speak. Day two was a different story. The earthy, gaminess had mostly dissipated and it was a much better, enjoyable wine. Still, I'd prefer a wine that is drinkable when opened, or soon thereafter. I don't understand the chemistry but this one was weird. Maybe it was better young and the bottle age actually deteriorated the wine. My rating is an average of day one (75) and day two (86).
