February 16, 2012 - A deeper red than I expected for a Loire cab franc - almost purple in color. The color belies the rather bright and "quaffable" quality of this wine - which is full of life, light on its feet, and immediately pleasurable. Warm vanilla and tobacco on the nose. The initial impression on tasting is the high acidity, which gives way to a disciplined structure with tastes of red cherry, bitter black tea and dry tobacco on the palate. There is a significant dryness to the finish and tannic structure lending to some astringency on swallowing. So, the fruit gives way to dry tannins which then gives way to a long lingering minerality which leads you to wanting the next mouthful. Very nice.
