  April 1, 2012 - Clear, deep garnet with plenty of purple at the rim. This took plenty of air before the oak influences subsided enough for the zinfandel notes to come through. The nose has medium intensity, and it was a bit one dimensional with strong black fruit and cedar notes. The palate shows a clean, dry zin with medium-plus tannins, medium acidity, and medium-plus body. The tannins resolved over a couple of hours to reveal a palate of blackberries, cherry cola, and definitely red liquorice. I'm reminded a bit of the Italian roots the name implies when I drink this wine. The lower ABV isn't that big a deal, but the oak influence is probably a tad to great. Overall, this is a generally a very good zinfandel.
