May 7, 2012 - Very Impressive! Bordeaux blend that is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (with some Malbec & Petit Verdot). I bought this bottle for $9.99 and it tasted better than most $25 Bordeaux's! I have had some very decent wines from Sterling Vineyards and most of them I would rate somewhere between 82-86 points.... very respectable. But honestly, this 2009 Meritage really blew me away! A very nice garnet color with good legs. Whimsical on the nose with notes of cherry, dark berry, and a hint of spice. On the palate, this wine has a full, rich mouthfeel. It is bursting with flavors of blackberry, ripe plum, cedar, and cinnamon spice. Great balance of fruit and spice which leads to a long, vanilla oak finish! Wonderful tannin structure which is warm, firm, and youthful. I definitely recommend this wine as one to try and would pair perfectly with red meat with a spicy barbeque sauce, spicy marinade, or tomato pasta sauce. I give the Sterling Vineyards VC 2009 Meritage an 'A' on the SiNoTas scale. All the right flavors, all balanced, and an edgy, provacative finish. Drink now - 2014.... but I cant help but to drink more Right Now! WineSplashing.....
