June 13, 2012 - On the nose I was a little disappointed, thought I would get a little more out of it. Picked up lots of strawberry fruit mixed with a little flower petal, but not sweet flower petals more sour/tart smelling. Also get a little wet brick..funny enough and a little muskiness. The strawberry comes through on the pallet, lots and lots of tart strawberry, even a little rhubarb stew, with a touch of pepper. Medium body, a little dryness on the mid-pallet. The finish is medium, and a little abrupt. Solid wine overall, not as rich as some other Grenache I have had, but nice drinking.
On the second day it actually rounded out a bit and I get a little more sweetness on the nose, but also more ground pepper, and a little more lush on the pallet, fruit has come through nicely. Love Grenache with dark chocolate, but this one was to thin to stand up to it and a little too tart. Better with something sweet and savory like a teryaki sauce and duck.
