Community Tasting Note

August 2, 2012 - A superb nectar. Initial surprise was to see its color as deep as it was for only a 2002, being a rusty red-orange. And then to taste the elements of raisins, figs, dried apricots and honey typical of a much, much older sweet wine. At first I thought this was perhaps indicative of improper storage of this particular 375, as maybe having been kept for 10 years without any refrigeration, or at even elevated temperatures perhaps, could cause what appears to be accelerated aging. Seeing so many other tasting notes describing a precocious maturity, though, leads me to conclude this is normal for this bottling. Perhaps an unusually low level of acidity upon bottling is the explanation. Nonetheless, it should not be considered a defect, since this wine at 10 years exhibits the complexity, maturity and mellowness one normally experiences at about 30 years of age. Delicious, and highly recommended.
