November 25, 2012 - Half bottle. I was surprised to see that although I own it, I had never tasted this before. Medium red. Wonderfully old fashioned Chateauneuf aromas-gamy red fruit, sour licorice and an array of green herbs. Light to medium weight in current southern Rhone terms, savory, spicy, peppery flavors, and crackling acidity which is so often lacking in contemporary southern Rhones. Gently building sweetness of fruit without any artificial sugariness or overripeness. I was stunned at how good this was, a welcome throwback to pre-2003 Clos des Papes.

11/25/12, 7:49 PM - Thanks Dr. Wine for the update on a wine I've not had in a couple years (two 750's left in my cellar). Also, a good point about today's modern, southern Rhones lacking the vibrancy of the old school (in terms of acidity). I very much agree and would add they also lack a lot of the secondary (ex. dirty, funky) nuances. I think Donjon still embraces the old school attributes so perhaps there is hope :-).

11/27/12, 8:04 PM - Thank you for indicating that this was from half bottle. What kind of air treatment did you give it?

11/27/12, 8:11 PM - grafstrb-This was uncorked and poured immediately, so the only aeration it received was in the glass over the 90 minutes during which it was consumed.
