December 12, 2012 - I am withholding rating and hoping the bottle will open up overnight. Popped and poured, dark wine with a brownish hue that I usually see in some pinots. Tight and over the top oak. I don’t know if the wine needs air, is an off bottle or just pales in comparison to the 2009 Hobel. I have heard '10 was a rough year for some, I just haven't seen it yet.

12/12/12, 7:09 AM - I thought you might find the below excerpt form the Hobel owners about the current drinkability of the 2010 interesting:

"I just wanted to give a quick note on the '10 before you cracked one open: based on our most recent tastings, we think that the '10 had seriously closed down for now and so you might want to hold your bottles in the cellar for a while. We never saw the '09 go into a closed down phase, although we were expecting it to as a part of it's normal evolution... so the '10 shutting down caught us a bit on the back foot. Unfortunately this hibernation of the '10 coincided with people receiving their shipments.

Bahaneh and I have actually opened more bottles of '10 post-bottling (compared to the '09) because we thought it was showing so well. 2010 is different than the 2009, the 2010 has a dark fruit profile, more structure, and more "lift" from the higher acidity...it needs a bit more time in the cellar.

    Thanks,
    Cameron

12/28/12, 11:08 AM - The wine may be closed but there is still a big difference in the tasting profile of the 2 wines. I would never guess they came from the same vines.
