December 12, 2012 - Everyone keeps writing restrained and muted and then giving it good scores. The fruit is definitely restrained and muted. Aeration doesn't help, leaving the wine open for multiple days doesn't help. It's just not giving much at all right now. No clue if it will in the future.

12/13/12, 1:19 AM - I love your review, pure honesty, I do agree sometimes a wine is just muted and restrained and you don't dare giving it a good score just because of the reputation of the wine.

That's the beauty when you taste blind, you're forced to score it whatever you have when not knowing the wine. Happened to me brutally with a Lafite 1986: https://www.cellartracker.com/note.asp?iWine=1476&iNote=1711374&searchId=84294937%23selected%253DW1476_2_Ke61055776bf303ee86c2f6f4b4f6c34d&UISource=list

So either this Montelena will become awesome in 30 years, or it's just muted and restrained and not a good wine :-)
