December 27, 2012 - Enveloping nose of violets, coffee (lots of it), smoked meats, plummy fruit - beefy. Softer on the palate with bitter coffee, citrus peel, tar and plum. Finish is soft and fairly short. The nose was the best part of this wine, by far, and the palate was better than the finish. Past peak. Probably would have rated 16-17 at its best. Drink up. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 3.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5/20.

12/31/12, 5:52 PM - Something chemical, like chorine, on the palate...should have stopped with the nose because it was off putting on the palate.
