January 9, 2013 - OK, this wine was good, but it missed the mark tonight. The wine was uncorked to a rather light stain. It was bottle decanted about an hour and poured into glass. Dark, full bodied, almost a little inky purple. The wine on the initial palate was all about the dark blackberry and a hint of earth. The wine then turned more high octane, with a lot of earth starting to percolate in. The wine finished with some earth, some dark chocolate pudding, fig, but was a bit out of balance with the high amount of alcohol that was there. I waited another 20 min for alcohol to blow off - and it never really did even after 2hr. It also had a rather dry finish, which was actually quite welcome but never quite burned through the alchohol. I'd like to see how this one sits over the next 10 years, because I honestly think that it has the capacity to age a rather long time. Perhaps the best is yet to come. Either way, the best is NOT NOW!

I'm going to let my other bottle rest awhile, but more out of curiosity than anything else. I've never seen a flaw like a weak finish iron itself out over time.
