April 7, 2013 - Decanted 3+ hours prior to this note. Super fresh nose full of cedar, red berry, creamy raspberries, dried herbs and some toast. An inherent coolness and freshness to the wine, bit of blue fruit, bottle sweetness and some pure glossy Cabernet fruit. Nose seems to have layers upon layers, sweet and sexy, very perfume like and mouth watering. Dark berry fruit on the entry with some drying tannins and ample acidity. Very fresh and polished, medium body, nice and even with a drying tannic finish. Nice oak toast and baking spice on th finish. At 23 years old its still a baby and shedding its fat. I'd like to see the tannins resolve a bit further but this is still great stuff with a nice long decant. I'd say the fruit and tannins are there to warrant further aging. If I were drinking this blind I'd say its more around the 15yr mark and very similar in age profile to the 97. Amazing that its drinking so young, great stuff. This is textbook CA Cabernet, up and down, classic.
