November 15, 2013 - Tasted in double-blind fashion with our Friday tasting group, this well-cellared bottle was generously provided by M.B. Deep red/garnet in color, it flaunts a nice bouquet of cocoa, loamy earth, dried herbs, pine nuts and cherries. Medium-bodied, this is a wine with impressive freshness, especially considering the vintage. The tannins are lightweight and dusty, while the alcohol is nicely integrated. Mirroring the nose, the flavors are complex but somewhat lacking with respect to the fruit component. Solid in the middle, it concludes with a medium-length, dry finish. There was discussion at the table about the potential longevity of this wine. Several tasters were noting abundant fruit that certainly was not detected on my palate. Now 10-years-old, I would err on the side of drinking it sooner rather than later. Drink now-2016.
