Community Tasting Note

  • caeleric Likes this wine:

December 2, 2013 - 1 hour decant, consumed 70-30 over two days. really tough for me to place my finger on what I was smelling and tasting. maybe some florals, oak spice, red and black fruits. the nose never measured up. it was "loose," just not focused and a little boozy. but that fortunately did not carry to the palate. tasty in the mouth and very enjoyable through the finish. it was good to very good, but overpriced. it should be cleaner and more focused at this price point. if scoring, 88-90. it was better on day 2, so maybe a few years of rest will help. I just feel like there's similar quality elsewhere for half the price.

12/3/13, 6:24 AM - que syrah syrah: I hear you. Helen and DJ are great people, and I've been a huge fan for a few years. but lately it feels like prices are going up and quality is staying flat or even dropping off. maybe I'm trying to talk myself out of liking the wines since my own available funds aren't what they used to be. thanks for the comment, and if you're ever in Orlando give me a shout!

12/3/13, 7:34 AM - Great note, Chris. I'm increasingly struggling with the QPR on Keplinger, myself. As you know, I'm a big fan, but I dramatically cut back on my purchases.

12/3/13, 8:09 AM - Eric- I actually completely passed on my recent allocation. it was tough, but I didn't feel like stretching the wallet would have been worth it. and my recent experiences with their wines have made me feel better about my decision. congrats on the reduced spending!
