January 29, 2014 - Rich, lush and delicious, even though still quite primary. Dark fruits, some cedar and glycerin join together in balance, with velvet tannins on the lengthy finish. Should settle and integrate with time, to become a complete powerhouse.

1/29/14, 12:16 PM - The few times I've had Opus, (vintage 2000 and don't remember off hand the others), the wine was way, way too green. All tannin and closed tight, even with some decant time. My thinking is Opus needs many years to fully flesh out. I am curious as to your thoughts, was my experience not the norm for this wine? Are they generally drinkable this early? Seems so with this vintage? Thanks. Barry

1/29/14, 12:22 PM - Barry, thank you for the comment. I guess I would say that the 2010 was surprisingly satisfying, while noting that patience will be rewarded for sure. Said another way, while the wine is enjoyable now, the potential is evident in spades. 2000 was an unusually tough vintage, can't speak to it specifically as to Opus One though.

    Best,
    Jonathan
