February 11, 2014 - The 2005 Sylvie Esmonin (Michel et Fille) Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques is medium (+) ruby in colour with a coffee scented nose over woody deep red fruits, dark chocolates, and slight dusty woody spice. There's an entry of juicy berries before quick dusty notes and wood spice that follows. There's also earthy truffle notes accompanied with dark chocolate notes. Very layered on the palate. Acidity is still pretty firm, particularly on the back palate. Medium (+) finish, a lot of youth still. Takes a while before it opens up. 91+
