March 16, 2014 - Bob Harris took the fruit nature provided in this difficult vintage and crafted a spectacular wine from it. The perfumed, charming, and layered bouquet screams Red Mountain. The palate features exceptional texture and balance. Complexity is the hallmark of this Syrah, refined, seductive, and stylish. One of the most appealing Washington Syrah bottlings I have ever tasted, and of the 2011 vintage, only Owen Roe's Ex Umbris is of comparable quality, but that wine is made in a different style.

3/19/14, 3:04 PM - Thanks for reviewing this wine. What's the word on the yet-to-be released 2012 Syrah from WA generally, and more particularly, Red Mountain?

3/19/14, 3:27 PM - Most producers I have talked to have talked up the 2012 vintage and I think 2012 should be very good. Producers are even higher on the 2013 vintage because of the long summer and high heat. In WA, heat can translate to very high alcohol however, so time will tell.
