April 5, 2014 - A Flight of 2005 CDPs: The 2005 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul has to be the second runner up in the flight. Dark garnet in colour with a nose of kirsch, slight soy, liquorice, gentle smokiness and slightly chocolatey. The palate is slightly chocolatey and very mouth-coating.
An entry of fresh herbs which then moves on to dark currants and gentle smokiness. The acidity coming up a little towards the end. Quite expansive in style with a finish of pleasant spices. Very integrated and its balance is definitely commendable. A tad bit young today, but many, many years ahead on this one. Hold on if possible. Its structure proves longevity.
